Does anyone out there think it would be a GREAT idea to put a diesel engine in a small truck - like a Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota, or Nissan Frontier? To me that makes sense, because so many people don't want to have to give up their truck.. but are being forced to because of rising gas prices. With a diesel engine in these small trucks you would be able to get outstanding gas mileage and still be able to have a truck! I just don't understand why nothing has been done like this before? Does anyone else agree with me? What are your ideas on this?

have fun beefing up the frame. a stock frame like that won't hold the diesel engine for long.
Toyota however did have a small pickup truck that was diesel back in the mid 80's

Yeah it makes sense, that's what they do in europe. Virtually all vans and lots of suv's are diesel. I think the diesel golf outsells the petrol ones in britain. Plus toyota and honda make awesome diesels, they should sell them in the US

They DO over in Europe. But not over here. Ford puts it in the Rangers over there.
