If he's laughing at the name of the syndrome or how funny the symptoms sound (kids can't resist laughing at words like "diarrhea"), then I suppose there isn't much she can do. However, if he is insensitive to HER, she should do something that commands his respect. I'm assuming we're dealing with someone aged 10-20, in which case the kid probably doesn't give his mom the respect she deserves in other aspects of life either. Some children learn respect through punishment, others lose respect because of too much punishment. Each kid is different but whatever she thinks she can do to gain respect is exactly what needs to be done. If I laughed at my momma for her multiple sclerosis she'd have given me a mean backhand to the cheek, but that doesn't work for everyone and I don't advocate physical punishment as there is a fine line between what's acceptable and child abuse. Hope this helps, I'm not a mom, just a 19 year old who was raised to be respectful to my parents.

lol, not laughing at you, laughing at some of the answers. i have no idea what you should do but depending on age, over ten give him a laxative it won't hurt him ( i fed the chocolate candy bar type to my sister when we were little, hilarious ) and when he craps a few times say boy i bet your pretty embarrassed i hope you don't have what i have. he may learn his lesson as long as you never tell him about the laxative. parents are so touchy about kids these days, they want to talk all the time and there is nothing wrong with that but it doesn't always work. sometimes you have to take action. teach him the hard way like are parents use to before everything became a court case. and no i don't spank my kids i just watch alot of reruns of roseanne.

Depends on how old he is>If he's too young to understand what it is, then laugh with him.If on the other hand he is old enough to know and understand the pain and discomfort associated with IBS.I would be for showing that boy the no tv ,games, computer etc...for a week, your grounded to your room rule,(better the no phone rule) or the door.

I guess you never got your bluff in on him....My mother will be 75 in 2 months....and I would never laugh at her about something like that. She wouldn't even have to do anything except look at me....It is called respect and I guess you son has none...

First off he needs to get serious for a minute. Sit down and have a talk with him about what its like. I would also have his father or a grown man explain to him respect and empathy too. Hopefully you can get him to be understanding instead of so rude and disrespectful.

Let him know how disrespectful he is being and that it hurts the mother to be laughed at, especially considering how painful IBS can be. What a rude little $&!* he is!

Describe, in detail, the problem. Maybe that will get him to respect you. Show him a few brochures and make him read them. Then ask him if he'd like to try it for a week!

Drop some acid into his drink, wait about 2 hours, and then come out with a Satan outfit on.

You brought him into this world, take his sorry azz out of it - shame on him! After going through how many hours of labor, and sitting up with his sorry sick butt how many times. Boys suck! You want a daughter - I will come help you out after you kick him out of his undeserved room and take away all his undeserved toys!
