According to the Un iv. of Calif. at Santa Barbara & the scientific journal, "Global Bioglochemical Cycles",there's methane gas (20 times more potent than carbon dioxide) escaping from the small volcanoes in the ocean floor of the Santa Barbara channel, called Shane Seep, near an area known as the Coal Oil Point seep field. Its been going on for some time. All that gas escapes into the atmosphere. Maybe that's why Southern Calif. has had temperatures in the hundreds of degrees for two weeks now. What other causes of global warming that you know of that others might not know of?

global warming is a theory that the excess release of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane is being trapped in the atmosphere and causing a "blanket" effect. because the air and atmosphere of the planet is in constant motion (tradewinds, jet streams) a localized release of methane such as in your area wouldn't cause temperatures to rise just in california, but years of CO2 and methane release (at least in theory) is caused to eventually warm the earth, hence the term "global" warming. it's in debate whether this is a natural cycle of build up, or accelerated from humans burning fossil fuels. this last week has been the hottest on record ever, not just for CA, but the entire midwest U.S. & London had record temperatures too. you can find out more about the CO2 cycle and theories of global warming in the sources below. i hope this helped!

There are many such undersea volcanoes in the world, so there is no reason to assume this set off of So. Cal is the reason for global warming. There are many sources of methane gas, including herds of dairy cows. Given that fact, one might assume that states like Wisconnson suffer greater warming effects, but clearly, that is not so.

For Southern Califonia, plus 100 degree temperatures are not that uncommon. Remember, this is the middle of summer. Death Valley is in California, and it usually records some of the hottest temperatures in the United States ever since people have been keeping track.

Global Warming is a phenomena that suggests that temperatures all over the world are warming up by fractions of a degree each year. One cannot point to a single part of the globe and read a high temperature for a short period of time and say, "There! That is global warming." It takes several measurements over a long period of time to see any affects of global warming. Even now, with all the news stories about it, no scientist will tell you, for sure, that we are in a state of global warming, and be able to point out the direct cause of it.

Global warming is largely discredited but climate change is recognised. The difference is Global warming enthusiast stick to very narrow definitions which have been shown not to conform to their model. Thus "Climate Change" is what everyone talks about now.

If you want to stop methane production to the extent environmentalists say is necessary just stop Americans eating hamburgers! The cows raised to feed the American market for hamburgers are ruminants. That is to say they eat grass and then ferment it in their stomachs. The product of fermentation is gas (Methane) which they then pass out of the orifice to the rear of their torso. Just stopping their flatulence would more than cut back the methane production necessary!!!

Don't get caught up in the hype. In the late 70's we were supposed to be going into a mini Ice Age. Now are seas are going to boil over. Sigh.

Relax but get used to it. It's a 10-15 year cycle.

It does not mean that we should not find other energy sources other than fossil fuel. Or improve the environment. We should.

It bothers me that they are refining a process to return the carbon dioxide that occurs during oil drilling and returning it to underground pockets.

What if those pockets where to escape during an earthquake that could make a sudden release of carbon dioxide that would not be so reversible.

Global warming is global and not localized. California is a small place compared to the globe.

alot of it is also vehicle gas emissions, diesel engine emissions, factories also produce alot of waste via their vent ducts of course depending on the items they are manufacturing that adds to the smog building up aroudn S. Cali.
