In fact it makes more logical sense to swear AT God while putting your left hand on the judge's nuts.
I see your point ... the "holy" book is a famous novel that is probably more endowed with human prejudices and quirks, than with authentic mystic powers or guidance. Good question.

Crazy, Almighty God is the ".......Author and Finisher of our faith." That is an exerpt from the Holy Bible which in part speaks of His inspiration by and through His Spirit. Yes, man, or rather many men, over a long period of time, wrote the different books of the Bible. It is the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of the most High God, Jehovah. Although the book in and of itself is man-made paper, the use of it by the Judicial system via placing one hand on it and one raised (as unto God) is a long-held custom and testament to the sacredness and truthfulness therein, and is meant to convey to the swearer that you will be held accountable not only to man-made laws, but also to God and His righteous judgement if you "......bear false witness". To drive the point home, The Holy Bible was physically written by men, but inspired by the teachings of and encounters with God directly and indirectly.

I would take it even father: can you swear in front of god putting your right hand on the holy book...the same hand you use to masturbate? Would a god tolerate that?

I was trying to prove that I dont need to believe in god by going outside and swearing at him in a thunderstorm...nothing happened....still dont have a reason to believe. oh yea...bible....probably a bunch of scraps laying around that someone collected and decided it was the words of "god". I saw those scraps were from a bum.

No. Most states have alternative swearing in procedures for people who do not like swearing on the bible for whatever reason.

The Bible was not written by man, but God told them what to write, and so that is what they did.

swearing in is nonsense and unneccessary
You think God cares if you put your hand on a book? Truth is truth, lying is lying, no need for ritual.

James 5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
