Several have been created. Distribution is the problem. Gas stations are equipped to sell it and trucks aren't equipped to haul it.

The main problem with finding a better fuel then Gasoline is that Gas is such an excellent fuel. Think about it. You can travel like 30 or 40 miles on one gallon,(7 pounds of fuel). There is alot of oil in the ground that has been too expensive to get. As the price of oil rises these deposits become more profitable to go get. When or if some other fuel proves out to be a better deal we'll switch. Until then don't worry about it. People have been saying that the oil will be gone soon since it was discovered. When its gone will find something else.

The question should be "what does it take for society to use the 'better' fuels that have been developed?".

First of all, there are many instances where the better technology does not become the 'standard' VHS versus beta, Apple versus IBM PC, even TV broadcasts, are all a few.

One reason is availability. If a product is easier to maintain, then you're more likely to use it. Companies that tend to make their format more open and available to others are likely to see it become the 'norm'.

Another is cost. Sure something else might be better, but if it costs too much to justify its value. Then no one else will buy it. There is a fine line between corporate greed and the need to make a profit. Like it or not, it is part of the engine that drive our technological advancements, but also can stifle them. If a company goes of of business, no on can buy their product anyway. Even a better product.

The last issue is the institution. Society has a momentum and is not often subject to sudden changes, unless a sudden reason exists. Current and past technologies using gasoline are a way of life for most of us. Simply running out and saying I can't buy gasoline anymore won't help me buy a new car or get to work.

At least a few people have come up with a better fuel than gasoline, or any similar using petrol. For instance, they' re testing new cars that run by hydrogen, But real problem is that the big companies, owing all the petrol market, pay those scientists a lot of money so that they sell them the patent.

Several fuels have been created. However, there are a few problems that need to be addressed before they can go out to the population.

1. Automobiles are not equipped to handle other fuels. Can you afford to buy a new car simply because it can run on another energy source? I know I can't!

2. Gas stations are not equipped to handle other energy fuels/sources.

3. Whenever a really, really good fuel has been engineered, oil companies buy up the rights to it. Claiming they'll develop the technology and make it accessible...they never do.

We need to find ways to circumvent oil companies and if need be gasoline stations! Brazil currently runs most of it's automobiles on sugar cane gas!!! It can be done...we need to become independent of oil ASAP!

Ok I think the best way to answer this is to ask another one.
How long have we known oil could be used as a fuel? ( in years}
How long has oil been present on this earth?
How long ago did we find out how to make gasoline out of old dirty oil?

Now we just starting thinking about a new source lol so how long do you think it will take us.

It's not the fuel that is the problem it is the engine. The combustion engine has not changed much since it was invented about 120 years ago. So the answer is one person to design a new type of engine.

812?

0 (wrap your mind about that)

actually gasoline is not in use because it is the best, or a great idea...it is just cheap and has lots of energy for the cost.
as it runs out and gets too expensive, we will use other things or walk like people always did until 100 years ago.

oil will be used for chemicals and paints
electricity will be used for power in new ways that are more effecient

Define better. If fuel A is twice as efficient as fuel B, but costs 4 times as much to produce, which is "better"? How does pollution figure in to 'better'?

Good question. Actually it's possible to run cars on corn oil among other things which is good because it's a renewable source.

it's not the fault of the brilliant people. there are several alternatives (ethanol, hydrogen, electricity, solar, etc.)

the fault lays with politicians and corporations who don't want the oil industry to collapse, and with stupid people who don't bother to follow science and technology, and just accept whatever the propagandists tell them.
