I have a 95 Mustang GT automatic, and I can honestly tell you, new or used, it is the only American car I would buy. Very fun to drive. Only negative is that gas mileage isn't that great (mine gets about 14 city and 19 highway).
It is probably the best sports car you can buy, dollar for dollar. Honestly, I like the Corvette better, but who can afford those?
Someday I will purchase a newer body style GT ('05 or later).
My Mustang is my 2nd car. I'm not sure what climate you live in, but being a new driver, you do not want to drive the Mustang in the snow if you are inexperienced. You will have that thing in the ditch faster than you know what happened (rear wheel drive) and nothing hurts worse than wrecking your dream car.
If you live where it doesn't snow, then go for it.
Becuase of the demand for Mustang's in good condition, you will probably pay a few hundred over Kelley blue book for one in really nice condition.
Good luck!

Theres nothing wrong with owning one or even dreaming of having one. Corv's maybe faster but the mustangs have great traction and when it comes to speed your going to need it. I would say that the best years for mustangs are from 1998 threw 2004. I own a 2003 ford mustang cobra, it has a super charger and so far i have only lost 2 races, but to be fair the cars that beat me were modify if you know what i mean. Also make sure u buy a stick car. My car is dark grey on grey interirer with 18"

You want a mustang and don't have a driver's license yet? It's too much power for someone who has no experience in driving. Don't get it if you can't handle the power that the mustangs have. I had 3 Mustangs but before I owned a mustang I started out with a 77 VW Scirroco. 4 spd. Eventually I bought an'84 Mustang GT,then 2 '86 GT convertibles. But I was able to handle the power. Learn to drive first. Gradually. Having a Mustang as your first car will not make you a better driver. Start out with a car with less power to get the hang of it,or else you'll end up killing yourself. 20 yrs. driving experience,10 yrs. Auto technician

Between my husband and I, we have owned:
(5)1979
(3)1981
(1)1982
(6)1983
(3)1984
(1)1987
(2)1989
(1)1990
(2)1994
Thats a total of 24 mustangs. Some people say we are crazy, but the whole family is like this, but none compare to us.
As you can see we love mustangs. Each car drives differently, and none of them handle the rain or snow very well. Your best bet is to go test drive a few and see what you like. Test drive some cars that you think you might like to see how each car handles.

i had always wanted a mustang when i was a child. I bought my first one when i was 24, it wa s red and a covertible. I loved it!. However, I did not abuse the car or the speed. You need to be mature and careful in any vehicle. especially one with so much power. There's nothing wrong with wanting to own only one car, however, I would test drive several differnt models to make sure, becuase a vehicle is a major investment and once you buy one it's yours. Also since you dont have your license yet, you have some time to decide. Read up. do research and visit different automobile dealerships and see what you really want. also make sure that it is something that you can afford the insurance for along with the car payment.

I own an 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra Supercharge, and is the greates car i ever had. Sound like a real pony car, runs , like a real pony car and at good price. The thing i love more is the power that a mustang can have with only a 4.6 liter engine,

The old ( 1964-1973 ) are the most collectible. The 79-93 are probably the best to start with... get a nice v-6 or 4cylinder automatic car. They are cheap to buy and run and easy to drive. If you want to dress it up there are a lot of goodies out there too.

I have a 1989 GT. It has a 347c.i.d. stroker, with a 12psi blower. Everything except the tranny and interior are modified. When the engine reached 188,000 miles I modified most of the car. I don't see myself selling it. It has been mine since new. She runs 11.5 second 1/4 miles on pump gas and drag radials with full granny(me) shifts.

Torch red w/ white stripes, 03 Cobra. 5.4 L supercharged, Hooker headers, Comp Cams 9" rear end, modified from the cobra indie rear suspension ,5 sp instead of 6 sp , 4;11 rear gears. Great car, pass anything but a gas station,& you'd better park it when it snows, cause you ain't goin' anywhere.
