I have a pair of 8 year old males (fixed/brothers) that really get along very well about 90% of the time. They usually have their daily fight, once again usually caused by the same cat, until one of them cries. Should I try to prevent the fighting or just let them go at it?

I'd spray water on them. They need to be conditioned that there is a negative consequence if they fight with one another.

After a few sprays of water, they'll probably learn that they don't want to fight any more, not if it leads to water being sprayed on them.

1st, are they fixed? if not it may be a territorial thing and will go away if they are fixed.

2nd, I have a boy cat and girl and they have at least one daily fight. When it get to the point where the girl starts to cry clap my hand together really hard and yell at the boy and say no! Sometimes I do have to remove him from the room and place him in another (doors still open at all). But removing him from the situation helps, sometimes, but it's normal. All brothers and sister have fights that sometimes get out of contol, pets can have that too. Also check out Ask an expert on the Purina website. I usually let mine duke it out, until it sounds like one is really being hurt, then I step in and separate them. There siblings, and they will fight for who's the boss. Since it's not constant, sounds more like it's play that gets out of hand.

Break them up to remind them that you are the leader of the pack. They might be fighting over attentions from you.
