I need to get others' opinions on something that happened to me 4 years ago. I was laying down to take a nap and was drifting in and out of consciousness. After one bout of sleeping/waking I found myself paralyzed and unable to move (a condition I later learned was quite common, and is known as sleep paralysis). At the time I had no idea what was going on, and began to panic. I thought I was dying! Angry that I would die alone in my bed for no reason, I struggled with basically every ounce of strength I had and forced myself to sit up. I was moving by sight alone, because I could not feel my limbs, nor could I feel the floor beneath my feet as I staggered to my feet. Moving slowly, I made my way out into the living room and fumbled for the cordless phone to dial 911.

That's when things started to get weird--my hands were passing through the phone as if it weren't even there. I really panicked at that point, and thought I was actually dead. Never one to give up, I kept trying to grasp the phone and eventually succeeded in knocking it off the cradle and onto the floor. I dropped to my hands and knees and tried to dial 911, but I was only successful in dialing the 9 before I experienced what I imagine a lightning strike would feel like. Abruptly I was back in bed, sitting bolt upright, alive and well. I immediately ran to the living room hoping it was all just a dream, but no such luck--the phone was on the floor where I had dropped it, the digital display still showing the "9" that I'd managed to press.
In four years I still haven't come to grips with what happened that day. Some tell me it was a bizarre dream--if so, then explain the phone? Others tell me it was an out-of-body experience--if so, why me? Any insight or explanations??

Yep, it's called OOBE (out of body experience). Believe it or not, there are actually methods to induce OOBE. Yeah, anyone can WILLFULLY get out of their body with a LOT of practice and special techniques. I'm pretty sure it only works if you're tired, and it's extremely difficult to pull off.
I've done it once, albeit for a very short period of time. I used the "roll" method where you literally roll out of your body right before the dream state, just as you're hearing those loud buzzing noises and your body is completely paralyzed. I rolled right off my bed and onto the floor, and as soon as I realized I was out of my body, the shock snapped me right back in.
I became interested in this years ago, around the same time I experienced a Lucid Dream (conscious while dreaming, and being aware it's a dream). Ever since then, I've been reading about both. The two are related, and both are very interesting...
There's more info at www.ld4all.com - just search the site for OOBE, and/or astral projection. If you can't find it there, just google "out of body experience" or "astral projection", and I'm sure you'll find thousands of sites. OOBE and Lucid dreaming are real - people dismiss them only because they've never been able to do it themselves!

Wow! That is an amazing story! You should never be afraid of the truth, and thats exactly what your consciousness was trying to tell you. The truth that this reality we think is so real is in truth created by our every thought and is not real!! At that time your thoughts were in a rather bizarre mode. My husband had something like this happen except instead of his thoughts creating him trying to get help, he sat there in his bed and talked with a women he didn't know, but told him this truth!

It is a very similar to a experience my twin had, he has many of what you speak of. He and I both have paranormal experiences, differently but we both have an understanding of the spiritual world. He was scared when he first got them.
Have you thought of creating a group to try and group others who have similar experiences, then maybe you can find an understanding to your experiences.
My paranormal experiences I have accepted as normality and what I see I believe is part of reality, but we are never able to show others our experiences as we see them other than art really
Why some get them and others don't I don't know but try meditating and going with it rather than fight it. One thing my brother said was, he was aware of NOT being on the ground (where the soul walks...ground level, he was upstairs) thus wouldn't allow himself to get off the bed because he knew he'd fall through the floor and be unable to get back to his body when saw his feet begin disapearing through the floor at the end of the bed. My experiences are similar, a body soul separation and I go with it and remember most of them too

This is fantastic.I have heard about others with similar experiences.
This is what happened to a guy whom I had met briefly at an airport.
He was food poisoned while overseas and had his whole body in tremendous pain for 3 days. That is the point in time he wanted to die.He suddenly realized that he is looking at himself lying on the bed with no breath.A few moments later he merged with the body on the bed.His pain was completely gone
This out of body experience is very similar to yours.
My understanding is as follows
Either you are in tremendous grief or in extreme anatomical disease.Your body went thru a moment of consciousness (also called enlightenment in some religion)
You are extremely lucky to have faced this situation.Very few people in this world can experience death while being alive.I am surely envious of you
Write to me if you have any questions on my comments

By reading ,this people such as an athiest and agnostics will tell you were sleep walking, but the truth of the matter is that it is an out-of-body experience.Things like this happen alot. Why it happened to you,That I cant answer.I really dont know why it happens, sometimes it because god is showing them somethin,or the devil is playing with your soul.its differs from person to person. I pray and go to someone that can understand whats happening, most likely a pastor.not a psychologist, they'll think your crazy or you have some mental illness.

Sounds like sleep walking. Sleep walking is related to sleep paralysis.
Possible scenario:
- you were experiencing sleep paralysis, followed by sleep walking. While you were sleep walking, you were still partially awake from the sleep paralysis that instigated all this, and actually did walk to the phone and dial 9. At that point, the partial consciousness ended, but the sleep walking did not. You returned to your bed sleep walking, and went back to normal sleep.

I've never had an experience like that. But, I can tell you that if this really happened to you, then you need to learn something positive from this. In the positive side, God is performing a miracle just for you so that you can understand what it means to "BELIEVE THAT GOD IS REAL"
Maybe by seing your own spirit, you will see god
