Yes you are in risk. Depending the type of Cancer they suffered. (you don't say), some types of cancer are more dangerous than other.
You are suppose to start checking for an early diagnosis at least 10 years before than the youngest member of your family has been diagnosed.
For example if your father was diagnosed at the age of 43 and he was the youngest member of the family diagnosed with cancer, then you should start visiting your doctor at the age of 33.
Unfortunately, if 2 or more members of the same family has been diagnosed with the same type of cancer, the risk in all members of the family increase.

Ironically, the fact that you have a family history probably REDUCES your risk of dying from cancer! Since you have that knowledge, if you take all the right reductionary precautions (eat healthy, exercise, don't smoke) and start getting checked regularly (as your doctor sees fit), even if you do get cancer, if it's caught early enough, most cancers can now be treated very successfully.
Best wishes!

Yes, your odds of getting cancer are high. But there are a lot of good ways to help minimize the dangers, just go to a doctor and get a full physical.

If your family has had a past of cancer, especially if it was the same type everytime, you might be genetically predisposed to have cancer. But really, it all depends on the type of cancer it was. Not all cancers are genetic. If you are worried, you should talk to your docter about your medical history. He or she can refer you to an oncologist who would be able to give you better information.

Part of the questions is what kind and is was there a commonality to their life style, ie smoking. Cancer is not one disease. There are known carcinogensand you should avoid those. Eat a heathy balanced diet low fat, full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Have regular checkups. Discuss specifics with your doctor.

Yes, your risk is definately higher than most, especially if it is one type of cancer in peticular. Get yourself set up with a good doctor that knows your family history and get annual exams so you can nip it in the bud if it grabs ya!
