It is called a cholecystectomy and the usual reason for surgery is because of gallstones. They can be very painful and even life threatening. The surgery itself is done with several small incisions for the camera and instruments. I have had the surgery and in itself was not as painful as the gallstones. After the surgery I was sore for a few days, but overall felt much better knowing I did not have to worry about it anymore. The usual cause for gallstones is too much fat in the diet.

The surgery and the pain after the surgery is not as bad as suffering with the stones.I had my gallbladder removed in 1993 and there are 4 small scars from the surgery 2 on my right side 1 inside the lower part of my belly button and one under my right breast, the scars are barely visiable it is much better and safer for you to have the surgery with out the surgery the stones could eventually to cause your liver to fail, and the gall bladder really does not serve a purpose that you can't live with out it.good luck

Yes I had this surgery about 8 years ago. I can still eat anything I want without any problems. Okay, if I really go crazy and eat a bunch of spicy food and junk food and alcohol all in the same evening, I'll get bad heartburn...but I think anyone would in those circumstances! The surgery wasn't too bad and I was a little sore for awhile afterward, but not too long. The incisions were tiny and the scars are very small.

it done when there is gallstones. If it by open surgery it is very painful . But if the surgery done by laproscopy with several small incisions for the camera and instruments which three in no., one near the umbilicus. The gall bladder act as reservoir for the lipid catabolizing matters, which secreted from the biliary ducts in the liver, then the bile stored in the gall bladder and ready to be secreted over a fatty meal, after the removal of the gall bladder, only the storage site will be lost, but the bile remained secreted, but in little amount and continuously, so the fatty meal might be not easily digested..and then some small pain which regarded as no pain in comparison to the pain of gall stone.

Yes. At first they tried to do it the "easy" way through a few tiny holes, but it turned out the gall stone was to big (golf ball size) en the bladder itself was in bad shape. So they opened me up and took out the stone + the whole bladder. Of course I was completely put under. When I woke up there was not much pain, but today I have a 22 cm (9") scar on by belly.
This was three years ago and I have had no problems and I CAN EAT EVERYTHING without problem.
Does this reassure you? I hope it does.

Gallstones was the reason.Had sudden excruciating pain in right upper abdomen with nausea and indigestion and intolerance to spicy, fried food.Had the laser surgery.Back to work in 3 weeks.Done in outpatient surgery.Still have some indigestion however no pain.Be sure to keep your bowels moving and walk so you won't get trapped gas, which can be painful.
