all this crap about not being able to spank your kids is why the world is going to hell and people are acting stupid with no values or morals...WITH THAT SAID...I don't mean whip your kids every time they screw up, and I definitely don't mean to beat the crap out of them...it should be used as a last resort...My parents spanked me when I needed it, and I don't have any "emotional scars" from it....I learned my freakin' lesson.

I think both do help. I personally don't spank right away. I think spanking is a short term fix. The kid learns get in trouble, spank, all done back to fun. If you really want to get to them due a time out or take some prized possession away until the behavior changes and they have learned why the behavior was not tolerated.

Depends on the child. When my nephew was a toddler, my brother used time-outs on him and it worked very well. He then tried it on my niece, and it was useless with her. So in her case he had to resort to spanking (of course, when he spanked her she got one firm swat on the butt and that was it), and that worked. My best friend has a good system -- he usually uses time-outs, but if either child throws a tantrum or tells either parent "No" when the parent tells them to do something, they get spanked. Good way to draw the line and say certain behaviors are NEVER acceptable.

I think of spanking to be a child abuse, so I would recommend time-outs. If you spank a child, then he/she might think that it's ok to hurt someone else.

Time outs to think about what they did. Spanking only teaches kids to hit to solve problems I think.

In my opinion neither. I take away benefits or tell my child we wont do an activity until her toys are picked up. The only thing that works 4 me
