This young lady really needed some advice, and all the righteous Christians told her to pray about it. I find this to be very bad advice in her situation. Is this the ultimate downfall of faith? I have no doubt that these people felt like they were helping her, but in reality were giving her advice that would not help her at all. Is it that hard for fundies to see reality, and put someone else's future over their own agenda? I am ranting here, but this really irritates me.

The fact of the matter is, people like to think that there is someone watching out for them, and that if they pray they have some amount of control over their lives, and everything will be better. Its a way of not taking responsibility for your actions and being lazy. If you have a problem, get off your *** and do something about it!

Now, I'm not a Christian, but prayer is powerful. Thoughts are things. Thoughts are energy. Prayer is a thoughtform. When you pray for something, put your heart and soul into it, the results can actually manifest. Negative thoughts work the same way. You put out so much negativity, it comes back to you. You get what you put out.

You are wrong. Prayer is the most important and effective weapon against sin and defeat against the devil. Prayer shows that you have faith in the will of God. What you pray for must be also what God wants for you too. If God says no to your prayer, it's because He's got something better for you in His perfect time. This is what God says about prayer...

1st Thessalonians 5:17-18

18 Pray without ceasing.
without ceasing Gen 18:29

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

prayer is good, and beneficial to converse with God (of course you don't expect an answer).

But if you are having problems, you pray and then still try to work it out. Prayer just helps you to refocus and look at the problem from a different point of view. You have to try to work it out and give God something to work with, problems don't work themselves out even with prayer. You have to work with your prayer.

You can pray for a job, but if you never go out and apply for one, it ain't gonna happen no matter how much you pray. If you go out and apply now, God's got something to work with.

I believe in prayer and meditation. I have no religious affiliations and I hope to keep it that way. All religions and non religions are right. What does it matter who is right or wrong? That philosophy keeps me in the dark and I Love the Light. I talk to God, pray, all the time and I listen to Him through meditation. He talks to me through other people, through answers here, through books I read(spiritual and non), there is a constant dialog if I look and want it.
Peace and Love .

Praying is not very well understood . It is not good to just pray if you don't know what to pray for or how to pray.

No. Its always bad advice. Or more accuratetly, useless advice. But then again, if a fundie had to rely on real things instead of their sick fantasy world, then they'd probably hurt themself or others.

only when the person believes in prayer. a lot of times praying about someting will change your mentality about the problem and often you will try to fix it, albeit subconciously. so for a religious person who doesn't know what to do, praying may help their subconcious mind work through the problem. for a non-religious person you'll probably just make them angry.

I think they gave her pretty good advise. The thing is, it is going to take a leap of faith to move out. And trusting God for a mate is also concidered Faith. The best advise anyone can give is to tell you to pray about your situation, the best thing anyone can DO for someone else is PRAY 4 them.
