When i was a child, I lived with my biological mother. She was always on drugs, drunk and abusive. It took a long time before anyone would believe me...when they finally did, I was put in state custody. Eventually, I was adopted. Somehow my biological mother found out where i was. She kidnapped me and tried to drive to Mexico. She made it to Corpus Christie, Texas before the police found us. When they did pull us over, she went manic. Apparently she was stoned and drunk at the time. When the officer pulled us over, he got me out of the car, and i started crying, because she had said if i said i wasn't supposed to be with her, she would kill me. The officer just held onto me and told me it would be ok, and that he was going to take me home. He gave me a little stuffed rabbit so i would have something to hold onto on the way home. I just wish i remembered his name so i could find him and thank him for saving my life when i was 6 years old. People say horrible things about police officers, and while it is true that there are some bad cops, most of them just want to help make the world a safer place for everyone. What the people who do bad mouth the police never stop to thimnk about, is the fact that, no matter what they say about the police, the police are the ones who are going to answer when an emergency happens in their life.

Hey. Thank-you for asking such a nice question, I appreciate that. Honestly, I was in a car accident but my head cracked open and the Paramedics (my Heroes) told me to not look anywhere. So I couldn't see the Officer that was at scene. A week or two later when I wanted to thank them I called the non-emergency line and left a message. I can't believe she actually called back. She helped me with some questions I had to ask.
Also being a 16-year-old I really respect Police Officers. Clearly I've never gotten in trouble because I want to make them proud. However, my principle thought I'm worth enough to give an award to an Officer. I was so glad. I'm working on a complimentary letter to send my local Police Department. Also drawing a patrol car along with it... I'm an artist and writer :)
I believe Police Officers are different in all countries so I won't blame people or judge them for speaking with a negative mind. However, where I live (BC Canada) they have proven to be very commendable people. An excellent performance in policing. A very dedicated team, helping around the community. Encouraging youth to the right path. In fact, Police Officers have helped me. Because of them I am who I am today. I wonder how many times they've helped me and am living because of them!? They deserve much more respect then given.
Having said that, a Police Officer here on Y! Answers taught me that 'two sets of ears and eyes are better then one.' and much more. Thank-you mikeysco! And I probably wouldn't believe someone else. I'm glad I listen to the Officers who come to my school and teach us about safety... I'm proud of them!
Warm Regards!

When I was a little girl, I wandered off. A nice policeman brought me home :)
Also, I had a bad 2 week period, and got a ticket. The next time I got stopped within that time period, I whined that I had just gotten a ticket and the cute cop let me go - nice guy! :)
I also saw the other day, an officer helping a lady change a tire on the side of the highway. He could have called a tow truck, but decided to do it himself.

i got in a bad car accident, and my favorite sargent wasn't on the call, but he came anyway, gave me a big hug right in front of the guy who hit me and let me sit in his patrol car in the rainy in the cold weather (10 at night). We laugh about how, what was the guy thinking when he saw all the officers comforting me... i loved my officers. you know, about 90 percent of "my" guys are good cops, about 10 percent are typical "asshole" cops...

6 weeks ago my wife and I were on the lake. After 3 hours of safe boating, we stopped for a swim. When we tried to restart it, the boat wouldn't start. Thankfully, we called the sherriff's department and they towed us to safety.
They didn't charge a dime.

A cop has never helped me. I've never had to call the police for anything.
All cops have done for me is annoy me by giving me speeding tickets. I HATE COPS

I've had lots of good experiences with cops! One changed a tire for me (and really didn't have to do it either!). They chased prowlers off my property when I was having problems with them. They've always bent over backwards to help me. I appreciate it!
