My puppy just got his last booster on Monday morning. I have heard that it takes 5-14 days for the vaccine to work. Is it okay to take him this Sunday to play with my mother-in-law's dog? I want to start socializing him more, but I don't want him to get sick.

She has a small inside dog and three outside dogs and goats. I may wait on the outside dogs and goats for a while...

He should be safe to go where you wouldn't expect sources of disease. No dog parks yet, or street walking, but, unless there has been parvo or distemper in the past year at your mom-in-law's, he should be fine.
don't allow him in the yard yet if it is frequented by other neighborhood dogs.

Is your mothers dog up to date on shots? If he is he should be fine.It takes 5-14 days for the body to fully figh of the vaccination, they take a very small amount of the dieses and put it in to your dog that way hes in no risk and the body learned how to fight it off when the big/ real one comes.Thats why puppies(and children) feel sick after shots.

We took our puppy all over the place. Socialization did wonders for her and she did not get sick. I think the chances of catching something is very minimal. If the dogs you are socializing with have had their shots, then you should be fine. Our puppy loved small, medium and large dogs!!! good Luck.

I'de say it is safe because
1. there is a small probability he would catch something in the first place.
2 the booster goes straight into their systems and he has also had most of the shots.
I wouldn't worry

You're safe taking your pup anywhere. The pup already has built immunity from his first shots & the booster just completes the process.

i would'nt bring your puppy any where near other dogs for awhile yet! he would'nt be strong enough to kight anything he picked up from another dog! and would get worms and kinds of nasty things! there will be plenty of time for playin with him and mixing with other dogs.

he should be fine. does your mother-in-law keep her dogs up to date on their shots?
if she doesnt....you might now want to bring him just in case.

the most important shot for puppies is for parvo. as long as he had that one, he should be okay.
