Personally, I wouldn't answer. Anyone asking a question like that in this forum is likely to be looking for conflict, humor, or just doing it for fun to watch people get upset.
On the other hand, you could get them with humor! Mention Abraham and Isaac, and how God used Isaac to test Abraham's faith by ordering Abraham to kill his son Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham obediently attempted to do this, but was prevented from killing Isaac by an angel, who revealed that God had been testing Abraham, and did not really want him to kill his son. Tell the story and end it by commenting "I am not Abraham... God would have to come up with easier tests for someone like me!"

Well, they're intellectually dishonest, so they aren't really interested in the answer...BUT, in case some other reader is, you answer them w/ the truth.

In the case of Abraham and Isaac, you have to read the whole story!

God STOPPED Abraham. (I once saw Joseph Campbell get caught up in this story, while he avoided the ending. Huh? don't you need the whole story before analyzing it?)

Abraham ONLY considered it b/c he believed God would raise Isaac from dead.

It is a powerful Archetype of Jesus, except that God actually DID sacrifice His Son.

The asker should be on his knees in gratitude to God, b/c he realizes how stunning this action is.

The best way to handle something like this is to put the verse back in to context. What this person did was take it out of context and twist it around so it would fit his needs.

Just amswer as honestly as you can, and dont get upset. If they open the door-let 'em have it. Its okay to make a fool out of a fool.
