Much like he did to Isaac that is. You don't know for sure if he will stop you or not, but you are being tested. Would you kill your friend?

Atheists need not respond, however, feel free to read the answers.

God tested Isaac that way, why would you think he wouldn't test you that way??

Atheists, isn't this scary? Look how many Christians are willing to kill their best friend because they hear a voice calling himself God telling them to?

Bloodthirsty imaginary deities aren't cool. They should be ignored in favor of immediate assistance from a head-candler.

Assuming that he was testing us... Then yes. If I was sure that it was God that told me to do anything I would do it. I know that God wouldn't ever tell me to do something like that.. so I can answer yes to this question. God doesn't test us in that way. Although he does test our faith.

There were different circumstances with Isaac. The reasons why God tested Abraham and how God wanted to use him are different. Besides... a friend isn't ours to sacrifice. That was the ultimate sacrifice for Abraham... a child that he longed to have for many many years... yet he was willing to give that child up for the Lord? Powerful statement if you ask me.

Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. There aren't any more animal or human sacrifices done... for any reason. Times have changed and God realizes that. There is no need for that type of thing to occur.

Abraham was to be the Father of many nations. There is a reason to test his faith, love and loyalty. Like I said earlier... it was the ultimate sacrifice for him. But even so, God didn't have him go through with it. He provided an alternative sacrifice. It just shows how much faith Abraham had in God.

God does not test us in any way shape or form. God opens doors for us and it is up to us to walk through. God has made a life full of many choices. Besides that, it was Abraham that was ask to kill. God stopped Abraham. Yes, He was testing Abraham's faith but that was in the Old Testament.

As far as you talking about atheists?? There is no such thing...There may be so called atheists on God's great earth but when they get to hell, they become a believer.

It wasn't Issac, it was Isaac's father Abraham. In this day and age, I don't really think God would have us kill anyone, especially a family member or best friend. Remember, Abraham lived in the Old Testament, and he was to kill Isaac, his son to prove his faith and obediance to God. We today, under the New Testament, make out sacrifices with our tithes and special offerings at church. We also, as baptized Baptists, partake of the Holy Communion once a month.

As Christians, any time we here something that goes against God, we are to test it to see if it was actually of God. If you read the whole story of Abraham and Isaac, you will see that God said to offer Isaac a burnt offereing, however, if you continue reading, God was testing Abraham to see if he would really obey Him in all things. In the end God gave Abraham a ram to use a burnt offereing. Abraham did not kill his son. Instead he gave him over to God for his purpose.

I do not believe that God would ever test us like that. (We are under new covenant. The Old Testament is what Jesus referred as the Scripture... before we had also the New Testament. And neither part is advising us regarding this matter.)

But giving answer, I would want to do what God asks me to do...and by saying that I must state that I DO NOT BELIEVE my Lord would ask me to kill my best friend EVER!

PS: I am not doing everything in my life what God asks me to do even though I would like to to what He tells me to do...so I am confident that God would not trust me enough ( for me to do the right thing at all times)with such a big request since I am messing up with so many small ones!!

I believe in a New Testament God... My God is a benevolent God not an Old Testament Spiteful God... My God would never ask me to sacrifice another Human Being... That goes against everything the New Testament preaches... Oh and by the way, just so you all know... I am not some bible thumper... Hell, I do not even go to church any more... In addition, I do not observe many of the rules... However, one rule I do observe is that God would never ask you to sacrifice another human... That sounds to much to me like some crazy Holy Jihad ****...

I think God would want us to seek Truth, not ponder hypothetical situations. And I don't know why other posters are saying that God doesn't test people? Thats what this world is for in Christianity and Judaism! A testing ground!

I would hope my faith would be such that I could do it.
People can do such things out of passion and ignorance...or even what they call love.
God gives life and he can take it away. If he chooses that someone should die, then they are actually dead already. But it would have to be a hell of a lot more then freaky voices in your head and the like. Real proof should be there that it was factually God Himself. Its all a matter of faith I guess.

If I was sure that it was God telling me to do it, whatever it was, I would do it.

we have to be aware, though, that there are many voices. He says, I know my sheep, and my sheep know me. we know the voice of the Father, but there are many other voices, some clearly distinguished from Our Father's voice, but some that seek to imitate it very closely and thus lead us astray. In the case of something as serious as killing another human being, I would initially doubt the integrity of the message, at least to question its source, and seriously, for some time. If, however, I was reassured in that regard, it would be the only thing to do!
