Russia has its own war on terror centered mostly in Chechnya, a breakaway piece of Russia dominated by Muslim extremists. These terrorist were responsible for the elementary school siege/massacre in Beslan (outside of Chechnya but inside Russia).

As for our war on terror (in Afghanistan, Iraq, and with Iran-sponsored entities), Russia wants to sell arms and supplies and make lots of money from the terrorists but they don't want the terrorists to win...they just want them to fight America to a standstill and drain America's resources.

As for the Israel conflict, Russia makes more money siding with the Arabs. They enjoy the conflict because they can interpose themselves into mideast affairs as an alternative 'honest broker' to the United States.

Russia is friends with Iran, which in the future may make them the bad guy. They are really excited about getting there old glory back so they have to ally with terrorists because they both have a common enemy, the United States.

Its kind of ironic though that Russia is fighting Muslims in there own country, yet its ok for them to be friends with others to sell them stuff.
