Pain!! Before surgery is a nightmare. I just had my laproscopic surgery about two weeks ago. It hurts as much as labor they say. I felt like my stomach was going to explode. If you are awaiting surgery , do a search on a bland diet and go with that only. Probably a good idea for the first week following surgery as well. I can tell you this that you will never eat the same again. They left me with five little scars. Very tiny they are healing already. I dont think they will be noticeable afterward they are like little scratches now. I am still feeling some pain and it has been two weeks. If they want to do a test to see if you have a stone in the duct get ready to be sick. It gives you pancreatitis. Also if your having gallbladder attacks it will affect your liver if it gets bad. Get your surgery as soon as possible. The longer you wait the worst it gets and believe me it gets bad. Hope this was helpful. Anything else you want to know just email me.

I had my gallbladder removed in 1991 after I suffered severe pain for two days from a bile duct blockage due to gallstones. I forget the medical name of the method used, but the doctor used a laprascope and pulverized the gallbladder and stones to remove them. It was done on an outpatient basis. I have three very small criss-cross scars and have been healthy ever since.

I hope this helps.

Only secondhand. My mom had hers out last summer. They did it laproscopically - which means that they made like four small (like 1/4 inch in size) incisions - one of which was in her navel - and removed it that way. It was done under general anesthesia, but she was home the same day. (She was admitted at 7am and released at noon-ish.) The whole surgery itself was less than 2 hours start to finish.
She felt a little nauseated and crappy from the anesthesia, and because they pump your abdomen full of air for the surgery, was gassy for a day or two. But the nausea and vomiting subsided the next day and she's had no dietary restrictions since.

It took several hours to have my removed. I was quite sedated and only wanted to sleep for the whole day. I took pills for several day for pain, but the pill made me sick. So, I went cold turkey with the pain.
Without the a gall bladder, you will have to change your diet. Avoid Fatty, greasy food. If you don’t you will find yourself running to the bathroom (and it will be runny, almost like diarrhea). You will need to re-education yourself on what you can and how much to eat with certain type of food.

Are you planning on having it removed due to gall stone? Be sure that is what you have. If you are having pain, but no gall stone is visible, it may only be some kind of reflexes.
Anyway, that’s what happened to me, I still have the pain now and then even without the gall bladder. Good luck
