Hujambo?
Well im happy to answer this coz iam a Swahili living in Spain.
the swahili people of Mombasa, the coast province of Kenya are a mixture of arabs/north africans/indians(asians)/other light skin mixture.
thats why they dont have the complete looks of a normal African, eg... we(most not all) Mombasa people have a (lighter) brown skin, compared to most Africans, our faces are long(oval), our noses are long and a bit pointed(not too much like europeans),
other swahilis eg in lamu, malindi, watamu, have long and fine hair.
as for the swahili language, yes its of bantu group, but its also a mixture of arabic and our own language, thus we came up with the swahili, most words in swahili are from arab language, some words changed abit, we share so many words in swahili and arabic,
for those whi claim to be arabs should be ashamed of themselves, well though some of them could be, coz this was as a result of slavery, the Kenyan slave girls gave birth to so many biracial kids from their arab masters, and thats why some of these swahilis are almost like arabs, and thats why some of them claim to be arabs. well they do have some arab blood in them.
otherwise, welcome to Kenya,
Karibu,
and enjoy our beautiful safaris, nice beach hotels and wildlife.

Swahili is a language, not a people. There need not be any particular correspondence between languages and peoples. People can come to adopt any language, even if it's completely unrelated to their previous one.
Swahili is a Bantu language (it is not 'believed to be' one, it is one), but is considerably simplified compared to its neighbours. It has lost the tones most Bantu languages have, it has lost several noun classes (a bit like gender in European languages but more of them), and it contains a large number of words borrowed from Arabic. These changes are probably due to its being used to communicate between different populations, such as Black Africans and Arabs who were mixing in that area.
