This is something that bothers me. An Atheist outright denies the possibility of God. Not everyone that is skeptical about God falls into that category. Please use the terms correctly.

If you don't believe in God you are an Atheist. If you question God you are an Agnostic. Do some research. It is completely different. I feel that a true Christian wouldn't judge people no matter what their beliefs because to do so would be..or at least should be against their beliefs.

What do you care? You don't believe either way right? So what is it that you want to be called? Agnostic? No belief in God is the same as he may be there, or could be there, or who knows. Anything that isn't serving God might as well be athiest. It's like you want to ride the fence. Hot or cold, black or white. That's the way God wants us to believe. Either your in or your out. You believe in him or you don't. You can't have your cake and eat it too. What's the point in believing in a God... if you don't live for him... Then he's just there? Up in the sky... is that what you believe?

Did you even bother to look at your link? The definition you gave?

Athiest - "someone who denies the existence of god"

So if you don't believe that there is a God, then... you are an athiest. Someone who thinks there might or might not be a God but doesn't care is an agnostic.

Well, look at the definition of atheist...

"One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods."

I'm not saying it's correct to call anyone who doesn't believe in God an atheist, but it does follow the defintion correctly.

If you wish not to be called an atheist, you should give more information that just, "I don't believe in God", because with that explanation alone it, indeed, makes you an atheist.

I'm a Christian, and I don't call a Jew and atheist because they believe in God. I don't call a Muslim an atheist, I call him/her a Muslim because s/he believes in a God. I only call people who don't believe in ANY god and atheist. You know what I hate? When a person(I won't name any names) mesh ALL Christians together making us like one person instead of individuals who follow the same religion. So don't accuse Christians of something until you've met every single follower of Christ in the world.

I will use terms which I choose as correct for my answer. Christians (not all) may say that anyone who does not believe in a monotheistic god is an atheist. This is a defense mechanism. This indicates that such a christian's faith lacks deep roots.

because athiest comes from the two words "a" & "thiest" which means "not a thiest" which means one who doesn't believe in theism (God). therefore christians call everyone who doesn't believe in God an athiest because that's what the word means. if you personally believe God may or may not exist ask your christian friends to call you an agnostic if the word athiest is so offensive to you. oh, & get a thicker skin too.

Well if you don't believe in God then than you don't believe in Him, aka Athiest. A person who is a Thiest believes in God.

Of course if you are Agnostic- than you are confused and don't know what to believe, so you don't want to believe one way or the other.

If we are being careful about how we refer to people, please do not assume that ALL Christians follow that behavior. I, for one, do not. I am more likely to presume they are agnostic than atheist but will generally simply say non-Christian or non-believer based on what I know of their belief system.
