I'm in South beach diet Phase 1 which gives emphasis to low carbs. I usually eat energy or cereal bar between 4 to 5 AM then hit the gym at 6 AM. Anyone here can share my dilemma.

I would suggest mixing some protein and carbs. For example, eat some celery sticks with cream cheese, or a couple of boiled eggs. Make sure you're drinking enough water. That is key!

I had a hard time figuring this one out, too.

You could try having some milk with your protein breakfast - there is some natural sugar in milk that can give you that "carb boost" even though you can't eat an energy bar. Or a plate of veggies might give you the energy you need too, without the danger of eating simple carbohydrates.

Keep at it, I just started Phase 2 and it is working well. I am not good at diets but this one is working so far. Good luck!!

I'm on Phase 3. Stick with it, you can do it. Just be careful of hidden sugar and carbs in those bars. It might be better to eat a few boiled egg whites instead.

Eating BEFORE

"BE-FORE" mind you,

any phys'l act'y -especially first thing in AM- is one lousy, dangerous, counterproductive idea, if I ever heard one.

Simple pondering on physiology and function should dispel any doubt.

I always ate a hot fudge sundae and a hershey bar---but you need to know, this diet did not work for me.
