The gospel was written by people who knew Jesus is the general viewpoint. Therefore, it is innately biased. If Jesus was a revolutionary preaching a new philosophy of Judaism that those in authority rejected, he would have been viewed as a troublemaker. In Luke, he even tells his disciples if they don't have a sword to sell their garments and buy one. What would they need a sword for? What if Jesus were attempting to oppose something those in authority wanted done and got arrested for it. Those who followed him glorified his life and death, much like the terrorists of todays followers do their leader. Since the Roman's crucified him and they didn't want a riot on their hands, they let the gospels be written and distributed in whatever way they wished. They also made a point to add the Barabbas being chosen over Jesus portion in order to gloss over the blame being thrown at the Roman's for crucifying Jesus. This way it was viewed as the people's choice.

You are raising another possibility that is very valid. However you are going to get slammed!! The religious right does not want anyone to question. THE BIBLE IS THE WORD OF GOD they shout! How dare you question. Don't let them get to you. Yours is a well thought out question given the time that Jesus lived on earth. The rest could be made up or just missing a whole lot of info. The Council of Trent removed anything they felt didn't up hold what they decided was the TRUTH. But most of the religious right never even heard of the Council. If you need more info go read up on it. It's very interesting.

You've been reading the Da Vinci code too much. What you refer to is what Peter called a 'cunningly devised fable'.

II Peter 1:16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

There are a couple of holes in your theory: 1) James (writer of the book of James) was not someone that was a disciple or follower of Christ during the earthly ministry of Jesus. He became a convert after the resurrection. He was half-brother to Jesus and didn't believe until he saw him alive after the death on the cross. 2) The apostle Paul was an enemy of the early church. He never met Jesus during his earthly ministry. He killed many early Christians in the name of Jewish law. He became a believer in Jesus and was used to write many New Testament books (1 & 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, ...). 3) The Jews who didn't believe in Christ (the San Hedrin and many rulers) tried to cover up his resurrection.

I can't convince you that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. I can't convince you that the Bible is true. All I can say is, God has changed me from what I was into a new creature. I've found that Jesus is everything that He said He was -- God, a Savior, my Redeemer. You can refuse to believe. It doesn't change the truth.
