I have a 11 week old puppy that is getting spayed tomorrow (She's 1/2 Chi and 1/2 Min-Pin). Presently she does not let you pet or cuddle her. When you reach down to pet her she ALWAYS thinks it's to play and starts nipping. Will her being spayed make her want to be held more instead of everything being a game to her? TIA

I don't mind her being so playful, I just don't feel like she's getting enough loving.

Most shelter dogs are done before adoption. Mine is an animal rescue dog and I'm required to have her spayed within 30 days of getting her via the adoption contract.

Having her spayed has many benefits, including reducing aggression. It will not stop her from wanting to play. Obedience classes would work wonders, they teach you how to train your dog.

It is always a good idea to spay & neuter your animals. The thing that will probably settle her down the most is time. Puppies just want to chew. Everytime she starts to chew on you, try giving her a toy to chew. Maybe she'll learn to associate that chewing is for the toys.

Just keep on holding & petting her. She should eventually get used to that kind of attention. I have 5 dogs. One is a 6 month old puppy who is mellowing out. He'll sit on my daughters lap for a long time. I also have a rescued female who was ver traumatized. She has come around so much.

Good Luck with the surgery.

Dogs shouldn't be spayed/neutered until they are 6 months old. What quack of a vet is allowing you to spay an 11 week old puppy? Dogs are considered puppies until they are about 2 yrs. old.

I was told that being spayed makes them meaner, but my dog seems much calmer now. I don't think being spayed will make your puppy more lovable, it sounds like it's just her nature to be more feisty. Maybe you may want to give her to someone who prefers that personality type dog, and you can check out which dogs have more lapdog-type traits? Good luck, hope you find a solution that works.

Spaying will not have an effect on her puppy behavior. She's a puppy and will do puppy things for a long time unless you can train her to direct her energies in more appropriate ways.

confident your cat will quiet down after she's been spayed, u could even see indicators rapidly after or can take some days to settle. if u do not want kittens then do not permit her exterior or opps u could have a minimum of 5 kittens, like my cat did the different day. my cat has 5 healthful kittens a million day old. we needed we did not permit her out at her season/warmth tiers. we've yet another female cat who we've been given her rapid sufficient spayed.

She is just being a pup. The spay thing is a benefit
to her health. As she matures she'll settle down.
Keep encouraging her to be held and she'll get the idea.
Talk to her on what you want. Have fun with your pet.

Your puppy is very young and young puppies are either playing or sleeping. Take your pick.

But thank you for getting your dog spayed!

Probably not. You won't know for sure until it's done and she's healed, but my dog is just as play-oriented as she was before she was spayed (she is currently almost 4 yrs. old).
