For a new driver, get a Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, or any of their high-rated Korean counterparts, as long as they have curtain airbags and are highly regarded by Consumer Roports

a 1972 cadillac sedan de ville.or any such lead sled.
as a new driver, you want to be protected. nothing will do better than to have 5000 lbs of steel to surround you.
you can pay cash for this car, parts are cheap, and they have lots of room for your friends to ride in comfort.
don't get caught up in the notion that you gotta have a new car. save your money the first time out.

Depends on what you can afford, monthly.
Does it have to be new? If you are buying used, look at the Honda Civic or the Toyota Corolla.

Try a KIA. They are affordable and they get good gas mileage. I have a Sportage and I love it.
