i guess it's 'coz it enforces the fact that they are macho.. i guess they are a little insecure in that department and having facial hair makes them feel a bit more secure..

I didn't know it was only law enforcement people (actually, I've known more without a mustache), but if that's true, then why do I have one?

not a speculation, i know this for a fact. law enforcement agencies do not allow you to have sideburns or beards of any kind. they do however allow a mustache. lots of men like to have facial hair, its just a guy thing, so they grow one with that being the only facial hair they are allowed

Not sure why but the same holds true of firemen as well and alot of emts, paramedics etc......I had when I was younger an autograph book so I could get the signatures of all the ones I found without mustaches.

Because they are usually under regulations that restrict the type of haircuts they can have. Growing a mustache is their way of having a say in the style of their hair growth.

Maybe you have misunderstood. Perhaps men with moustaches enjoy being in law enforcement.

Blum,
For 30 years, it was the only facial hair I was allowed to have. Something about getting a good seal on your gas mask. I now have a full beard and long hair.

I prefer them clean shaven - not like Grizzly Adams. If I get pulled over, I want to at least enjoy the view. I hope they work out.

For some, it gives them more maturity and therefore credibility. These are important components to the confidence they must have to do their work well.
For me, I think a man in uniform with facial hair is twice as hot, so it doesn't matter 100% to me what the reason is . . . :o)

I have I extremely undemanding rule on male facial hair kinds: all or not something. i love an finished properly groomed beard on a guy, quite one with extremely salt & pepper in it. yet mustaches on my own? undesirable. Beards on my own? somewhat undesirable. those stupid soul patch, landing strip designs? The worst!
