I am really glad you've asked this question. I was going to but didn't have the courage. I think some of these answers are really mean. Maybe there are some people on here who are perfectionists maybe some are very competitive some are here to help others some are here to learn some are here to make a difference in peoples lives as well as there own some for entertainment and fun whatever the reason i don't think it matters if someones spelling or punctuation are not as good as others. There are more important things in life... but i hear your passion about it all and i do understand what many are saying but can i just say please don't criticise those of us who are here with good intentions this can be a life changing sight for many of us and i don't want to have a dictionary at my side i want to enjoy my time here. I have said before the spell check doesn't always work, i typed in the same word three times each time with a different spelling and each time the spell check said correct. If i am missing something please tell me (kindly)...Personally i believe it's better to encourage people rather than knock them down with words which are very powerful. This isn't meant to offend anyone maybe it's how i feel and also another point of view....
Alex 42..if you read this can i thank you for voting my answer the best one....

If you are not rich enough so that you do not have to work, then you fall into the class of Employment Beggars! Everyone looking for work is begging someone to hire them! Since 90% or more of all the people on this earth fall into the class of Employment Beggars, that makes for a world of competition.

When employers view the applicants documentation, they look for discriminators, issues that reduce the numbers to be consider. If your application/resume is full of grammar/spelling errors, that indicates that you do not care enough to present correctly spelled documentation to represent you for the position. You could walk on water as far as your experience qualifications are concerned but it is to the trash can with trashy documentation.

No one is going to hire anyone that does not care about their presentation when asking/begging to be allowed into their firm as an employee.

Intentional poor spelling, (Intentional because you know that you have spelling issues and you make no effort to correct the problem), does not support good education, and you can believe that almost all your competition will not submit documentation with spelling errors.

So you definitely will not be considered. Of course, if you do not care then all this really does not matter.

The really sad issue concerning your question, is that you said to the world that you are not the type of person that they would want to hire.

Well it's like this mini-f There are so many Poindexters and Know it all's on here. That they go looking for mistakes. Just so they can put people down for NOT being as smart as they think they are..I don't give a damn what your question is about. One of these NREDS Will have something to say about you spelling or your grammar. They don't even answer the question you ask. They just start about spell check!! And I can tell you why they do this. It's because there a bucnh of NREDS!!! Or School Teachers..OR Poindexters.. OR Bariny Act's..Or Know It All's!!! And this is why they worry about it so much....And you heard it here first from a REAL Nutcase!!!"""NUT'S"""..PS ...did i win...did i win...did i win????

It is good that you noticed. You studied them in school for a reason. Having good grammar and knowing how to spell show that you are educated and are reasonably intelligent.

Don't be offended, but I suggest that you take up additional English courses. It is worth the trouble. Otherwise you'll always be at a disadvantage. Your employers will not think you can do a good job, since you weren't even able to master the English language. At a personal level you will also be judged by your friends, dates, etcetera. Trust me -- it will make a difference!

Well, I find text language, improper grammar, mumbling, purposeful incorrect spelling and sPeLlInG lIkE tHiS.... it's extremely annoying.

A lot of people are concerned with grammar and spelling because it's something you learn in primary and secondary, and if you forget it, or have never learnt or used it, then, for example, it's a threat to a company's reputation or there's something medically wrong that needs to be examined.
I am not at all suggesting that you have an illness or disease, but certain may think like that. (I don't know who, but it's always possible.)

Sorry if I'm no help.

Proper spelling and grammar are signs of intelligence, education and manners. There is nothing stuffy or uptight in expecting others to make a little effort to make your ideas readable.

No one wants to ridicule the ignorant or those who use English as a second language, but if you speak English and took advantage of the educational opportunities offered you should be able to follow a few simple rules and conventions.

There is nothing wrong with being creative with your language, but when you are trying to communicate your thoughts and ideas to others it is considerate of your reader to use standards so that we are "all on the same page" as it were.

For some it may mean the last bastion of hope to save our beautiful language from the hands of the incompetent, and of the inept.
Language is comprised of not only the spoken word, accompanied with gesticulation; but also of the written word accompanied with subtle use of grammatical tools to express particular thoughts or emotions. Besides, you can make yourself look cleverer innit?

This has to be a wind-up.

However, there may be some out there who do wish to have this question answered.

Grammar and spelling give structure to a language. Without this structure you will eventually be reduced to reading (!) children's picture books and comics.

Grammar and spelling has evolved to enable us to communicate lucidly with one another.

If you don't take it seriously, no one is going to take YOU seriously.

Hope you've got a strong back, you'll need it for whatever job you manage to find that doesn't involve some basic language skills.

Because the beauty of language is one of the basic values of a nation and national heritage.. Everyone who loves his country and nation should take care of his language... And one way of taking care of your language is correct spelling....
