To the person who mentioned animal sacrifice-- we don't do that. Do a little reading and research before you start making ludicrous assumptions like that. Wiccans believe that spilling blood, ESPECIALLY in a ritual and/or sacred space is wrong.
Because Christians believe there are two things -- God and Satan. As far as they are concerned, if you aren't following their God in the way their bible sets out than you aren't following God. Therefore, the only other option, in their eyes, is that you are following Satan.
I am Pagan. I was raised Presbyterian and I deal with my parents attitudes towards it all the time. This is why ... it's sad, though, since as far as I'm concerned we are both praying to the same deity - just in a different context.

Because who can take seriously people running around in strange robes and waving wands? I'm Pagan, and I'll tell you what I have issues with:
- there is no creation in Wicca. The rituals are all surface fluff. Very few priests know how to get below the surface and acknowledge the creative aspects of life. All this Lord and Lady athame in the goblet just doesn't work for me. It didn't work in the ancient rites, either, if you actually read them. This entire HP/HPS thing is a Gardner invention.
- the Celts don't have a creation story. Read the myths. The closest they come is the invasions. The pre-Celtic nomads (proto-Indo-Europeans) were magpies who picked up anything that struck their interest, and that includes religion and philosophy. Why do you think the priests of the Druid caste went around asking questions of anyone they found interesting?
- Wiccans need to get over their Judeo-Christian brainwashing. All the ancient temples were dedicated to one specific god/dess, not a Lord/Lady. The temple priests had their own personal gods, the god of the city, and the god of the temple. And it's OK to have a male god in charge of the temple. No, it isn't Christian. Talk to Apollo about it.
- I also have issues with the entire wiccan directionals. How on earth does one get Earth in the North? And Fire in the South? What's that all about? And don't tell me about Ireland and the ancient kingdoms, we're not in Ireland. If the wiccan rules don't make sense, I'm certainly not going to acknowledge them. Just because a book says to do them a certain way, doesn't mean that's what needs to happen. If I wanted to follow a book, I'd still be in church. A little logic, please.

Simply because it is misunderstood and people don't want to learn about the things that they fear. Society has branded it and people seem to follow the bigger group just because that is what they have been taught. That doesn't make it right and they must be simpletons to not want to expand their minds and try to learn about it instead of looking down on it. It is a beautiful religion. They have good moral standards and they love and care for the earth and all people. They look beyond the surface and see the inner beauty in all things. They do not worship the devil. Most believe in God. They have to because he is the creator of all things.

It's pagan. Very much like pantheism, which worships "nature" as God. A bible believing Christian, such as myself, will not condone any "religion" that leads people away from Jesus Christ as the only source of salvation. It doesn't matter that wiccans claim their beliefs are "benign"....they aren't. Denying the cross will only lead people to destruction, ultimately.
That being said, I respect the right of anyone to choose their own beliefs. But I don't have to agree they are true. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but that is my answer.

I think that the wiccan faith and druidism and things like that are a throwback to really basic religions and they acknowledge the existence of things that most modern religions do not

People don't take the time to find out what it's actually about.
That said, I'm pagan not Wiccan. Not that I dislike Wicca....it's just not my cup of tea.

Because it's misunderstood. It's different so it must be bad right? Point is most people fear what they do not understand and the crap that comes out of Hollywood doesn't help either.
I'm Pagan BTW

I don't like any "religion" where an animal is tortured and slaughtered as part of a "ritual". That is my main problem with it.
If they love blood so much, why don't they cut themselves and use their own?

In general, because it's misunderstood, and people are either unwilling or unable to learn about it and realize that they're not devil worshipers.
