I have a lab who like all labs and puppys chews on everything. I do have a cotton filled "mat" for his kennel, but he chewed on it. He has things to do in his kennel so its not lack of toys. Its almost like he only wants the cotton filling inside not the sheep-like stuff on the outside. Would the cedar maybe help deture him?

i guess. he might be addicted with the stuffing. i have the same problem with my dog. she likes to dig out those stuffing be it a teddy bear toy, pillows or just about anything with stuffing in it. i'm not sure if a bed stuffed with cedar can cure him. he might still dig it out.

Use a bunch of old blankets until he grows out of the chewing up beds phase (if he does grow out of it).

I don't think the cedar or cotton will make a difference.

Cedar fumes are harmful and to a dogs sensitive nose...very strong. Train him on what to chew and what not to. When he chooses his toys ( a treat filled kong is great) praise him, tell him how good, how smart he is. Let him know his choice was good. When he chooses the wrong thing, tell him "no" make him give it up and replace it with a toy of his.

CEDAR IS NOT POISINOUS FOR DOGS....
MY BLACK LAB CHEWS ON CEDAR STICKS ALL THE TIME.....
The cedar filled beds are nice for the aroma... and the dog kinda takes on the smell....
as far as deturing him from chewing it.... every dog is different.... worth a try

Cotton would be softer, but cedar is supposed to repel the bugs. How about a mixture? And maybe you can find out what kind of pepper they are not supposed to like (I can't remember, maybe cayenne?) and mix that in there too?

Cotton for indoor, it can be washed, and cedar for outside. Buy him plenty of dog chews.

It would certainly be easier to clean up. Poisonous? Better look into that. Labs are truly wonderful dogs, but some are not truly bright.
