There where actually two plants involved in the making of Coca-cola. The cola plant and the coca plant. The derivative of the coca plant was removed from the Coca-cola formula in the early1900's.

The Cocoa Plant has always and will always be used to produce coke. Dont mistake the Cocoa Beans on the plant with the Cocoa Leaves of the plant. There are countries that have been eating, using, Cocoa Leaves to get them through their day, and hopefully more productively at the same time. Yes, before we had a lot of federally regulated food issues, the cocoa leaves were also used (in small quanities) in the production of Coca Cola, giving the customer that "well needed boost" that gets them thru their day. Quite honestly, if you have to take drugs to get you thru your day at work, you need to seek professional help. lol. Probably even worse than the cocoa leaf issue is the issue concerning the amount of sugars, artificial sweetners needed to make the bitter "cocoa bean" balance out to where people can stand to drink them. You might need to dbl check my figures but if I'm correct, for a 12 ounce can of Coke, it takes approx 9 tablespoons of sweetners or equivelant) to balance out the bitterness of the cocoa bean. The best I can recall on Mt. Dew, It's considered the most bitter bean used, and takes approx 13 tablespoons of sweetners to balance out a 12 ounce drink. Thanks for asking. Larry.
