I have 2 kittens, TOOTSIE and COOLOO. I just found out cooloo is a boy, tootsie has been spayed now for months, and cooloo is getting neutered next friday... Will he spray after hes been neutered and will she still go into heat since shes been spayed?? Also, i want them to be as happy as possible, they have lots of toys and a kitty house to play in. They dont play in the kitty house or on the scratch posts often since tootsie is declawed all the way around and cooloo will be too. I've never had cats, so Im kind of new to this... What will keep them happy? I love them very much. Thanks, angie

Just to let some know... I have no choice with the clawing. My sister and her 3 kids have cat scratch fever, if they get scratched, they will suffocate and die. They are highly allergic and always have been. I have no choice. But my kitties do have a happy home and we will take amazing care of them. Thanks, angie

Most male cats stop spraying after they get neutered. Mine did. Female cats don't go into heat after being spayed.
It's sad that they are declawed.....but if you felt it was necessary....
Kitties are happy if you love on them a lot and they have a nice window to look out of. Along with food and water.....anyway it sounds like they'll be fine.

Having your cats spayed/neutered will keep them from spraying or going into heat. Also, don't worry about them not playing with the scratching post (even though they are/will be declawed. Give them time....they WILL. Relax...you can't expect your cats to get excited over a kitty house or toys. Trust me, they'll start using the stuff in their own good time. That's just the way cats are. Good luck and enjoy your kitties.

Ok let’s go one at a time
if you spay them both before they have reached their came into age then no they will not go into heat.
i feed my cats and my foster kittens with pro plan by Purina.
pro plan, royal canin and science diet are the top three companies for cat and dog food.
do not buy eukubuva or imas they do awful experiments on animals.
for sand i use ever clean it has six different types which is great cause you can chose what suits you and your cats best.
for treats i give my cats either some cat canned food or cat's treats Purina’s Friskies has this great wet treat it comes in all kinds of flavors and shapes my cats loves it.
since you never had cats i will be very gentle the way i say my next lines:
do not dewclaw the second cat, what they do in that surgery is not taking off just the nails it's actually cutting off the upper part of the cat finger bone, yes bone.
there are several things that can go wrong most cats who have been dewclaw instead of scratching began to bite, they start to have beaver problems, and the worst thing: they can actually die from the surgery, if you knew my native language i would have send you a posting from a cat group I’m a member of, it’s of a guy who dewclaw his cat and the cat died because of the dewclaw.
if you search the net for explanations of dew clawing in sites such as the peta
organization site you will see how awful this surgery is. i advice you to change your vet to one who does not support this surgery.
there are alternatives which are cheap and don't cause your cat any life long pain.
one is to cut the edge of the fingernails once every two weeks your vet can show you how to do it. My cat has some beaver problems which makes it very hard on me to trim her nails I do it while she’s asleep a nail at a time it works.
there are also these great silicon caps that you glow to your cat’s fingernails, they stay on for about a month and half more or less. this is called soft paws. it's such a great invention it's cheap and it comes in all kind of colors: www.softpaws.com
also if you do that and have enough scratching posts then your cats will scratch on them.
if your scared for your sofa them you can buy a special spray to spray on your sofas and carpet it doesn't leave any stains the cats hate the smell and don’t touch those places.
Here’s a link to some info about dew-clawing: http://www.peta.org/mc/factsheet_display.asp?ID=42

No they will spray or go into heat. That's part of what spaying & neutering are about. Getting them declawed is cruel & unusual punishment...what if they get outside & a dog chases them? How will they be able to climb a tree to get away from them? Getting an animal declawed is like getting your fingers cut off. It is very painful. And most vets don't like doing that operation. Just love them the best you can...they will be happy.

Declawing cats is one of the most awful things you could ever do. I feel sorry for your cats. Im sorry if I am rude about that but getting them fixed when they are young if they are male before they start spraying is the best thing to do . trust me, you dont want that smell in your house and on your furniture. Obviously you have nice stuff if you are getting them declawed. I never had a problem with my cats clawing the furniture or not using the litter box or not plkaying with their toys. Cats use their claws to play with their toys, to grab them and throw them around.

well if your boy cat is spraying already then it might continue if he hasn't started odds are he won't. after getting your cat spayed she shouldn't go into heat anymore if she does get her back to the vet because they missed something.
if your getting your cats declawed they won't scratch on a scratch post they have no claws to, and they probably won't be able to climb.
to keep them happy, feed them quality food (I recomend natural choice complete care indoor formula) fresh water (I recomend getting a drink well pet fountain) some string toys (NEVER leave those out for your cats when you aren't playing with them they might eat them and that will cause major problems) get them a variety of toys. NEVER let them outside unless you have leash trained them or have an outdoor inclosed cat area that you can buy numerous places.
Oh yea, make sure you keep some extra money on hand incase your cats get sick or injured so you don't have to worry if you can take your cat to the vet or not.

please dont declaw.. you have no idea how often side effects are from declawing I used to work at an animal shelter and we often had people dump declawed pets because of one or more problems after the declaw (usually refusal to use the litter or the cat became more paranoid/nervous biter)
good for spaying and neutering
have lots of toys and hide some for a few weeks then bring them out and kitties will think they are new and play with them more - honeysuckle toys are great too!
move the cat house around or even lay it on its side to create something new and interesting - rub cat nip on it...

Hi,
cooloo should not spray after being neutered. i would not have thought that tootsie would come on heat as her ovaries have been removed. do not declaw cooloo. declawing cats is really horrible and it is equivalent to the removal of fingers until your knuckles. (would you be happy if someone removed your fingers and then expect you to play normally and be happy?) Angie if you want to see them happy then : try and feed them at set time intervals of about 4 or 5 small meals a day. vary their feed in terms of dry food, jelly food or gravy food , boiled food or fried food etc.
twice a week give them lacto-free milk with egg yolk mixed together. you can also add fish oil to this milk to enhance the flavour. give them vitamin supplements as they grow older. as for calcium (required for strong bones) you can finely ground egg shell and add it to their cooked meals. alternate cooked and raw meat meals so that they get a varied and balanced diet. dont forget to add veggies to the meat. give them fish meals atleast thrice per week. take them to a vet atleast once per month to check for dental problems, eye or ear infections. more if you see lethargy or any problems. try and get a kitty kondo, kitty tunnel, cosy bed, outdoor cat bed(if your cats are going to go out later) and a kitty gym as well. change their cat liner and tray atleast every two days.
due to the hot weather, encourage your cats to drink a lot of water by placing clean water bowls filled with water; giving them treats if they drink the water.

Contrary to others' experiences, I had a male that did continue to spray in the area after he was fixed. I had to thoroughly clean the area to remove all trace of urine odor, but eventually he did stop. I also learned that a thinned down solution of Vick's VapoRub applied with a moist towel deterred him from spraying and clawing on my furniture.
Please don't declaw. It is the equivelent of having the first joint of your finger removed. Many catalogues and pet specialty stores sell rubber caps that attach to your cat's claws, and can be replaced as they wear ff. They also come in designer colours, and various sizes.
