as I keep telling people, you should be checking body-fat percentage, not just weight.

But it should be obvious if he is fat - does he have a belly? If so, he if fat/over weight.

He gained 30 Lbs in a month? I have a really hard-time believing that one. But if he gained anywhere near that amount - he has a serious problem.

At the heart of the problem is YOU! You are doing such a poor job of raising your child that you allow him to just sit, eat, and watch TV all the time?

Every time I see an obese child, I think, "his/her parents should be put in prison - they are doing such a terrible job as parents it equates to child abuse.

My suggestions:

1> allow one hour/day of TV or computer
2> Consult a nutritionist
3> if you are a fat pig or eat junk food on a regular basis - get some help for your self also
4> prepare all of his meals so he is not just eating uncontrolled proportions
5> require him to be outside playing for a few hours each day. I also highly recommend that you involve your self with his activities. Go kick a soccer ball around with him. Throw a ball around. Play some tennis with him. Go for a walk EVERY day with him and make sure that the walk is a little bit longer each week or every few days.
6> it will be difficult to just stop eathing junk food. sugar can be like a drug, but cut way back on it. leave the sugary food as a small snack that he can have after playing/exercising. STOP BUYING SOFT DRINKS! If he is looking for something sweet, give him fruit. But you still need to control the proportions. I really urge you to work with a nutritionist.

7> dont' be a wimp, don't give in to his wining and complaining. In other words: grow some balls! You are the parent so make sure that you are acting like a parent.

Yes, he is overweight. Can't you look at him and tell? If you let this continue you are guilty of child abuse. Please do not make him go through life with this problem. Kids will make fun of him. Girls won't like him as a boyfriend. His health will be put at risk. The less active he is the less active he will want to be.

Take away his TV during the day. Limit the night usage. Cook him healthy meals, let him help you and you can educate him at the same time. Have baby carrots and celery sticks for snacks. Don't buy chips, cookies and junk foods.

This is your responsibility. Live up to it. When he makes you a grandmother you will be glad you stepped up to the plate.

Uh yes he is, and it's up to you as a parent to get him off the couch and outside doing things that require physical activity. Don't blame him if you allow it to happen.

Yes ma' am your son is over weight. I weigh 120 lbs. and I'm older than him and shorter. Maybe you could get him involved in sports. And he'll enjoy that. or taking him bike riding you and can have some mother-son fun.

yes he is overweight but it is not to late to fix it. i would sign him up for some physical thing so he is healthy, and he doesn't look at his self when he is older and go on some crash diet!!!!
