President Bush vetoed a bill blocking government funding from stem cell research. Now researchers are stuck with charity and rich people donating. I understand the president's protest about embryonic stem cell research. But what about adult stem cell research. Do you think the he should have been more precise and said no government funding to embryonic stem cell research? Adult stem cells are a lot less potent than embryonic ones but other than that I don't see a problem. They're taken from an adult's bone marrow.

A lady on the radio near where I live said that life starts at conception because each time an egg and sprem meet it becomes a baby. I tried calling in to tell her that 90% of the time it doesn't survive past 2 weeks so it doesn't become a baby and she kept interrupting me.

There are a lot of misconceptions about the bill. The bill that was vetoed was for performing research specifically on embryonic stem cells and for Government Funding (your money and mine) to perform this research. There are a lot of other sources of stem cells and other sources of money besides mine. Cord blood from the umbilical cord can be a very good source of stem cells. If the individuals that are creating all the fuss would expend their time, energy and money on researching cord blood stem cells then maybe more progress would already have been made. I do not want to financially support embryonic stem cell research.

The bill was for EMBRYONIC stem cell research. Adult stem cell research is ongoing and funded.

FYI, there have been more breakthroughs found with adult stem cells (around 70) than with embryonic stem cells (less than 5).

The veto was not politically motivated. It was morally motivated.

He didn't 'block government funding' - there is still gov't funded Stem Cell Research. The bill was meant to EXPAND funding.

Besides "charity & rich people donating" (which is the same thing by the way), many of the world's pharmachuetical companies are doing their own research - there is billions of dollars invested in this in the US & Abroad. Do you know how many cures they've found so far? 0, zero, nada, none.

He should have never passed a bill that stem cell research should be blocked. embryonic stem cell are the most benneficial to science because of their abillity to become any one of the cell or cell tissues in the body that the body needs. By using adult stem cells, it limits the research possibillities because when they are in full adult form they only have the ability to become whatever tissue it was before. it cannot change.

Adult stem cells are not less potent, they are exactly what you need. not some fake unnatural embryonic but the God given ones in your body.

With the right nutrition the body can increase it's own stem cell production and Heal Itself!

Natural stem cells not only repair other cells or replace them, but they also repair damaged tissue and organs.

The information on my page is very helpful to those interested in how the body heals and repaires itself.

Adult stem cells are far less numerous, and do not thrive in laboratory conditions nearly as well as embryonic stem cells.

Well, what else can you expect of a power-hungry maniac?

I hope people realize just how much he's set back scientific research in this country.
