Stones less than 5 mm in size usually will pass spontaneously, with diclofenac usually providing effective pain management. However the majority of stones greater than 6 mm will require some form of intervention, especially so if the stone is stuck causing obstruction and infection of the urinary tract.

In many cases non-invasive Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy may be used. Otherwise some form of invasive procedure is required; with approaches including retrograde ureteral, percutaneous nephrolithotomy or open surgery, and using laser, ultrasonic and mechanical (pneumatic, shock-wave) forms of energy to fragment stones.

A single study at the Mayo clinic has suggested that Lithotripsy may increase subsequent incidence of diabetes and hypertension,[1] but it has not been felt warranted to change clinical practice at the clinic.

I too have kidney stones and they are not fun. I don't know about "cures" but I do the following to keep them at bay as much as possible. 1. drink lots of fluids everyday. My dr has advised lemon aid and that seems to help they are fewer and farther apart. There is a new study that states that the benefit of cranberry juice has been overrated you need to drink at least a gallon everyday to do any good so we don't have to force all this cranberry juice like we used to. 2. Exercise. 3. Watch your calcium intake. I no longer take vitamins that have calcium in them. Hope this helps Good Luck

first if it makes pain you must drink lots of water, YOU can drink boiled parsley water, and you must get some medicine what makes your urinate channels wider, I cant remember the name but it is something effervescent putt in water(like boiling).. Then the best way to cure is natural ways, I am Turkish and there are lots of natural spas for it. You can drink hot natural mineral water which makes those stones smaller and you can have bath what helps to fall them with urinate, (the first one which you can drink ICME(in turkish) and the bath (spa) (Kaplica in Turkish). It is a good way for spending holiday and having the natural cure. If you want more information or contact just write here. It will be more cheaper than you expect

lots and lots of cranberry juice, or a cran mix juice. I was hospitalized a few years ago with blockages from stones..so I totally feel your pain. Just drink lots of cranberry juice!!!! Also, find out what kind of stones your body is making, and then you may be able to change your diet to help your body to not make them in the future. Good luck!

If you want to prevent them, drinking water is a good first line of defense, but you should also drink cranberry juice and lemonade -- there's something in them that prevents the calcium from bonding and forming stones. If you have one, best thing to do is go to the doctor and have him/her use ultrasound on it to break it up if he/she can.
