start with that.

You are what you are! But you can change that by just putting on a different hat occasionally. Different hats that identify with different characteristics. You can chose what you want to be today, tomorrow and in the future. If you suffer from low self esteem, then disassociate yourself from that character, put on a different hat, give yourself some fine qualities and act out that qualities. Off course it would help if you're in company of strangers as no one knows who you really are. At least until such time when you have gather sufficient self confidence to face your peers again!

Its crucial to realize that its low self esteem and nothing else before you even walk towards curing it.
Its very well said that there is a thin line difference between being assertive and being arrogant. Self esteem and confidence are inter-dependent. If your self esteem is high, your confidence level will be high and vice versa.
One of the ways to keep your confidence level high(in a way self esteem high) is to ensure that you kill pro-castination. Things done on time, will boost your confidence, and you'll have faith in what you do and thus boost your self esteem.

I have low self esteem too. Positive self talk helps, as well as looking over past accomplishments. Self help books are good to read before bed at night. Best Wishes.

Depending how this low self-esteem began! I would not suggest outer superficial fixes! Unless it makes you personally feel good -DO not do it to Please Others! Like wearing makeup if you really don't want to!
I would hope you have a therapist! Yes self help books are good, but there are so many - and not all authors know what they're talking about: unless they've been there themselves and have achieved or made tremendous progress!

This sounds really silly but the best thing I did was step outside of my comfort zone. Meaning, I would volunteer for projects at work that made me speak in public. I also started taking classes where I didn't know anyone. This made me come out of my shell as well become good at new tasks. there's nothing like kicking some butt in the kitchen!
