only in certain areas in Canada ( Ontario for sure) and definitely in Denver.... other areas are trying to establish bans on them as well.... which is so unfortunate... they are the sweetest dogs.. I own one and she is so affectionate and loving...these dogs have truly been persecuted when its the owners that train them to be nasty that should be banned... any dog can be taught to attack and hurt others... it's all in how you train/ raise/ socialize them !!!!

Julie is spot on. Some cities (especially) in California have passed ordinances against the animals. Another series of laws designed, not to hold the few who are guilty responsible, but just eliminate another "thing" the general (responsible) public is allowed to have. It started, who knows where, has progressed through firearms, is now working on pets, BE WARE as you may be next. Wait until the private ownership of a automobile is illegal. People will raise the roof but guess what, it is already to late to rein in the legislators and judges who legislate from the bench.

it depends i live in texas they arent illegal here
yes i understand why pitbulls are illegal in sum places
i hav a female pitbull 5 years old i rescued her from owners that wud mate her back to back and sell her puppies it was a very sad story they did this so often she hadnt had time to recover so her utters hang low all the time now, she is the nicest pet a owner could have she wouldnt her a fly, and she has the most unique personality ans she does the cutest things if your sitting on the floor she would nudge her way into your lap lol she thinks she is the smallest little thing. most of the time all she do is lay around and love you. and she is a house dog......the way your dog responds to things all parts on the owner including the owners that make these poor dogs fight and thats y they hav to put alot of these dogs to sleep cuz that is wat these owners trained them to do and it never leaves their minds.

Not illegal, per se, but not allowed in many communities. Check the ordinance where you live - either with the apartment manager, homeowner's association, or town/village/city hall. ALSO - many homeowners' & renters' insurance policies will NOT cover you if you own a pitbull.

In the United States, Denver, Colorado was one of the pioneers of banning "pit bulls." The city had legislation on the books since 1989, but was nullified by a 2004 law passed by the Colorado General Assembly prohibiting breed specific laws. However, it was overturned in April of 2005 after the city challenged in court the constitutionality of the law. The city reinstated the ban which prohibits citizens from keeping "pit bull type" dogs after May 9, 2005. Over 260 "pit bull" type dogs have been seized from their homes and euthanised since this date, resulting in widespread protest from dog owners and animal rights lobby groups [17]. Since this legislation has passed over 1000 family pets have been taken from homes and destroyed. No such ban on other "dangerous" dogs has been enacted and no reporting of a decrease in dog bites has occurred.

There is no breed called a pit bull. Assuming that you are referring to an American Staffordshire Terrier, they are legal to own in most parts of the USA. But a few ill-informed areas have outlawed this breed along with Rotties and other "bad" dogs.
There are NO bad dogs -- only bad owners!

They are banned in the UK, and are required to be spayed/neutered in France.
They are banned in Denver, and some other cities.
So, whether thay are illegal to own, depends on just where you live.
It is illegal to fight them or promote fighting them in every state of USA, but still legal in Mexico.
They are llegal anywhere in California, as there are no breed specific laws in California.

Not in most states but you are required to have liability insurance on them and get ready to pay cause these dogs have been being bred for protecting drugs and the blood lines are all messed up in some but not all
