I am considering finishing my basement but have very limited income. I live in Michigan metro area. How much can I expect to pay a "handyman" type of guy to do it (or how much is a reasonable offer?)?

Home renovations in MA. are roughly $100 - $125 per square foot so take it from there it should be considerably less if there is no plumbing work to be done such as kitchen and/or bath

Good luck

There are really far more variables to such a question really. It's not just the area you live in, but also the size of your basement, how extravagent you want to be, whether or not you're adding bathrooms, plumbing, heating, sheetrock, ceiling, etc.... It can all add up in a hurry! Some basements have a "roughed in" bathroom, which makes it less costly to add the bathroom as intended. But if it's not roughed in, it's going to get expensive fast... drain, plumbing, concrete work, etc... It never hurts to contact a handy man in the area, just to get a ballpark idea too! Just be prepared for sticker shock! That way, when he comes in with a lower estimate that you have in mind, you'll be pleasantly surprised with his estimate. Good luck!
