I need to know is it possible to get ink poisoning from drawing on your skin w/ a pen? How is this different from tattoos?

Pens sold in the US must be non-toxic by law since at least 1980, but markers are a differnet story. Ink as a whole in pens should not be ingested and if used on the skin can cause some irritation and discoloring. If done over a LONG period you can cause damage, so I'd advise breaking down and getting a sketch book to carry around.

I used to write on my skin daily as a kid. I never got ink poisoning. So I would say no. Tattoos are different your skin is being broken by a needle and ink is being put into your skin. I saw a man once who had a bad tattoo his stomach was so ugly. It had got infected or whatever after he got it. He was scarred for life. So be careful. If you get a tattoo make sure the business has a autoclave!!

No poisoning from doodling with pens.
Tattoos put the ink deeper in the skin not just on it.

You can only get ink poisoning if you ingest ink or if it gets into your bloodstream. Your skin won't absorb any ink if you draw on yourself. You can not get ink poisoning by writing on you hands or arms. Only if you cut yourself and then put ink on you cut. Then you have great chance of getting ink poisoning.

well, Writing on your skin probably won't kill you, but it's not exactly healthy, either. While most writing inks are nontoxic, they do contain chemicals that can be poisonous if ingested in large amounts. According to Health Central, you generally have to swallow at least an ounce (that's several pens' worth) of writing ink to induce poisoning.

Sharpie Markers are not to be used on skin. Only markers that specify they are safe for use on skin are recommended to be used on skin. Sanford does not manufacture markers for skin. I advise you to consult your physician for information related to the health effects of writing on your skin with permanent markers.

No, you can only get ink poisoning if you put ink to the inside of you mouth or put it on your tongue. Tatoo's by the way, are like really permanent ink, and you can't get ink poisoning from them

That is BS. For 3 years I always wrote my grocery list on my hand so I wouldn't lose it. Everyone always made fun of me but I never got poisoned.
