You don't have to go to college to become an officer. It takes some time but you can earn rank through the years and take schooling to become one. Having college in the beginning, gives you officer status right away. But you can work up through the ranks. They do offer schooling. This is also something you should talk to your company commander about. He can direct you to the right path. I have been around the military for 20 years, so I've seen several ways to work your way up to officer. When you say Officer..do you know what rank or title or position you are referring to? Even if you had ROTC, Its still not any easier than being an enlisted. You work just as hard as they do. It's not an easy ride for ROTC.
I gave you what i know you can do. But honestly, talk to your company commander, your 1st Sargent, or Platoon sear gent, they can give you more information on how to become an officer, what you need to do, and so one. The military has changed since i was around active duty Army. But i know you can earn your way through the ranks with training and schooling. Good luck.

There is 4 ways to get a commission.
1-Service Academy i.e. West Point, Navel Academy, Air Force Academy.

2-ROTC done at a college or university over a 4 year period

3-OCS (Officer Candidate School) 90-day wonders NOTE: Must have college to start or finished degree.

4- Direct Commission, Medical Doctor, Dentist, Lawyer etc..

I went through OCS in 1999, I already had my degree at the time, bottom line you have to have a college degree to be a officer, except OCS don't know the min. you need to start but you must have finished your degree to make Captain which is about 3 years after commission as a 2LT. My advise to you, do your time as enlisted, get out go to college and join ROTC.

There's something called officers training academy, it IS a college and if you ARE in the military to become an officer you MUST attend, and/or have a basic 2 year degree from an accredited college. You may request testing to be entered into the OTA, or if you were lucky, and I most CERTAINLY was, you will have done high enough on your ASVAB to be invited. I unfortunately turned it down, but I'm one of those really smart guys who just scraped by at school because of lazy DNA.

Are you on delayed enlistment? When are you scheduled to go active? What have you signed?

you will need a 4 year degree in a field that the ARMY wants. you can achieve this either before you enter, or you can participate in one of several comissioning programs that the Army offers. If you go in as an enlisted member, the Army will pay for 100% of your tuition.

I personally wouldn't recommend the Army (retired Air Force) but do what your heart leads you to do.

If you go enlisted and go officer later, you can go officer with 70 credit hours, then you will be given a time limit to complete your college degree before they will take your commission. You can get the details about how to do that from your recruiter. In order to go officer from the start, you pretty much need to have a degree, but no, it does not have to be in a field they need. I know officers with psycology degrees that are NBC officers. Your degree does have to be in the field of your job if you have a job that requires one, like being an M.D. I would suggest you come in as enlisted, get tuition assistance, finish college, then go green to gold.

you need to go to school for it. If you go in now you will never be an officer. You can still back out, just say I do not want to go. just because you signed the contract it is not fulfilled until you graduate basic. They will kick you out if you fail basic.
An officer will make alot more money. I did over 8 years in active army, If I had to do it again I would be an officer.
I was a staff Sergent when I got out.( E-6)
You do not have to go you can still back out. I was a recruiter when I was in, you do not have to go.
Think about it!

First of all, no you do not have to have a degree to become and officer. You can go through the green to gold program once you have done some time enlisted. Talk to your recruiter and he/she can explain it to you. My husband is army and actually has done this so I know it to be true.

Hi - in order to be considered for Officer Status and move up more quickly, you'll need to have a college degree. If you are signed up to enter and do not have a degree, then you can do your tour, go to college, and resign back up - or you can go to college while in the military (although highly unlikely due to time conflicts).

Take lots of classes while in the army to advance your E-classifications. But my humble opinion is you have to have some college to go in as an officer. I might be wrong...but that's what I'm thinking.

Good Luck...and thank you for your Service.

you can go to school while your in the army, you have to have a 4 year degree any degree to be an officer, it would be great if you do because you'll make good money and if you get out of the military other companies look highly on people who have served in the military and you'll always have job guaranteed!
