My cat pants too, I think it's fairly normal. All of the cat's that I've owned over the years have panted in hot weather. About the other stuff, a little weird, but nothing to worry about. Just don't let him (or her) eat nothing but dog food. Cat food contains a certain protein that a cat will go blind without.

Cats pant when they are very scared or stressed out. If your cat had been playing and being chased hard by a kid or something, it might pant.
BIT, I have never seen a cat pant after normal play. As for the chasing the tail and eating dog food, that is normal.

They do pant, here it is going to be 103 today. The neighborhoods were sitting in shady spots panting. It's a little different than dogs but still they are panting.
Your cat may be young or very playful and bored to chase its tail.
As for eating dog food, my dog will eat cat food, my cats will eat dog food (if she leaves any). They only eat her smaller kibble though. My cats will also check on my dog, Luna, sniff her to check on her.
When Luna was younger, she would pull my big black cat around the living room by the scruff of his neck. I was worried, but he could have run away, gotten on a bed or otherwise away from her. But he would let her do it over and over again, when she was a puppy. Now he won't.

Yes cats will pant when they are really hot. And I have cats that will eat dog food too, and my dogs prefer the cat food! All very normal in my book!

Cats can eat dog food. All animals chase their tails. And if you had that much hair, wouldn't you be hot too? That's how animals cool themselves, by panting and letting air inside the mouth.

Sounds like my cat. Yea, it's natural for them to pant when they have been playing. They don't pant regularly, all the time like a dog does. My cat will also eat the dogs food - although I think he does it just to piss off the dog

Even if your cat wasn't raised by dogs, your cat would panting to cool off. Cats and dogs do not have sweat glands so they cool off by panting.

Sure. Cats, like dogs can't sweat to cool off, and panting is the cooling mechanism for them. You don't see it in cats much because most cats won't exert themselves to that point. Remember, dogs have owners, cats have staff.
