The Bible is not a science book, oh great one. Its purpose is to teach religion, not science. Have you tried to find astronomical facts in a bank ?

Population Statistics...World population growth rate in recent times is about 2% per year. Practicable application of growth rate throughout human history would be about half that number. Wars, disease, famine, etc. have wiped out approximately one third of the population on average every 82 years. Starting with eight people, and applying these growth rates since the Flood of Noah's day (about 4500 years ago) would give a total human population at just under six billion people. However, application on an evolutionary time scale runs into major difficulties. Starting with one "couple" just 41,000 years ago would give us a total population of 2 x 1089. 9 The universe does not have space to hold so many bodies.

DESIGN -irreducible complexity within the structure of the cell requires design (Denton, Behe ).

(DNA REPAIR: The genome is reproduced very faithfully and there are enzymes

which repair the DNA, where errors have been made or when the DNA is damaged. - D.H.R. Barton, Professor of Chemistry, Texas A&M University,Nobel Prize for Chemistry )

(CHANGE WITHIN GENETIC BOUNDARIES: Microevolution does not lead beyond the confines of the species, and the typical products of microevolution, the geographic races, are not incipient species. There is no such category as incipient species. Richard B. Goldschmidt )

(MUTATION ACCUMULATIONS RELENTLESSLY FATAL: Any random change in a complex, specific, functioning system wrecks that system. And living things are the most complex functioning systems in the universe.Science has now quantitated that a genetic mutation of as little as 1 billionth (0.0000001%) of an animal's genome is relentlessly fatal. The genetic difference between human and his nearest relative, the chimpanzee, is at least 1.6% Calculated out that is a gap of at least 48 million nucleotide differences that must be bridged by random changes. And a random change of only 3 nucleotides is fatal to an animal.

Here is another analogy that's very close to the original Bible story.

Bob is a single parent and has a son called Alan, an only child.
Bob says he loves Alan dearly.
Bob has built a fantastic play room for Alan with lots of toys.
Bob has put a chocolate bar in the middle of the room containing poison that causes excruciating pain, permanent brain damage and serious genetic damage.
Bob tells Alan not to eat the chocolate because it will hurt.
Alan has a playmate called Evette.
Bob has a work colleague called Daemon
Bob doesn't like Daemon because Daemon is after Bobs job.
One day, Daemon goes into the playroom and convinces little Evette that the chocolate will not hurt but actually tastes really nice.
Bob knows that Daemon is in the playroom trying to get his children to eat the poison that he put there.
Evette believes the grown-up and eats some of the chocolate.
Evette finds out that the chocolate tastes delicious and doesn't hurt at all.
Evette tells Alan about how good the Chocolate is and that daddy was wrong about it hurting.
Bob knows that Evette has been tricked into eating the poison by Daemon.
Bob knows that Alan is going to eat some of the poison.
Bob doesn't take any action.
Alan tries a bit of the poisoned chocolate.
Now that both the children have been fatally poisoned Bob eventually decides to come into the playroom and beats the **** out of his kids, kicks them out of the playroom into the cellar and keeps them there until they die because he loves them so much.

Some points to note are that:-

*
Bob knew when he was building the play room that he was going to beat the **** out of his children for eating the poison that he was going to make.
*
Bob put the poison in the playroom knowing that his children would eat it.
*
Bob knew that Daemon would trick his gullable children into eating the poison.
*
Bob still allowed Demon into the playroom to trick his children.
*
Bob has the antidote for the poison.
*
Bob will allow another one of his children to be murdered before he will give anyone the antidote.

Is Bob a good parent?
Who is to blame for the poisoning of these two naive, innocent children?
Had Bob not allowed Daemon to trick his children, would they have eaten the chocolate?

At best, Bob is a negligent father. The fact that it was all premeditated and engineered to happen this way makes Bob an evil murderer.
Of course this is just an analogy and any resemblance to any persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

I am a Christian and absolutely believe in the biblical story of Adam and Eve. I'm afraid you are misinformed about the scientific aspect... it is absolutely possible for all 3 races of mankind to have been decended from two folks. You may enjoy Ken Ham's writings - check out AnswersInGenesis.org - learn and research!! You're on the right track by questioning and seeking truth. God bless you. ~Nisa

Some Christians take the story of" Adam and Eve" and everything in the Bible to be literally true (word for word). I know that Catholics take some stories of the bible for their overall moral teachings and advice, but do not interpret these stories as precise historical fact. As for Genesis (Creation stories), these are not believed by Catholics to be fact. "In the beginning" is interpreted more as "Once upon a time." The story of "Adam and Eve" was in fact written long after the Jewish religion began and hundreds of years after the Exodus (slaves fleeing from Egypt). During the time period when "Adam and Eve" was written, the story was probably regarded as parable (a short story that teaches a lesson), but as it was passed down, overtime, it evolved for some people to a state of complete historical fact.

To answer your other question, if in fact the story of "Adam and Eve" were true, it would be possible for the entire human race to to descend from just two people, but there would have to be some intra-family marriages. For example, in medieval and modern times, the tradition of European nations was to have their Kings, Princes and Princesses marry royalty of other countries. Since "royalty" could only marry other "royalty" many people ended up marrying there close relatives or cousins. Also, if you have seen the movie "Gladiator", the new Emperor of Rome wants to marry his sister. (weird) These marriages cause mutations in children such as Hemophelia (blood clotting disorder), and six fingered hands among some.

Yet another person who only studies half of the information and then discredits the other half... OK lets go from the beginning.. It is easily traceable that the origin of our species began in the Middle East somewhere and that we eventually all came from "a Couple (in the married sense)). As far as the Biblical account of whether or not we believe it... "YOU BET YOU SWEET PATOOTY"... Evolution has been proven impossible on so many levels that it is silly to bring it up again. yet they do. Before anyone says it let me go ahead and answer. Every single "Neanderthal man" has been proven to be a hoax, there has never been found ONE stable mutant gene or cell, not to mention the fact of our knowledge of the magnetic poles of the Earth and their increase or decrease in power over 1200 years that you can measure, Leap Second, The trigonometry of the Sun and the fact that it is being consumed, the impossibility of an "organized explosion"... oh how the list goes on and on... oops may be I should just be to the point.

Yes, we believe it. And yes it is scientifically possible you are just wrong in your statement.

This is not a story that only Christians believe it; it is present in each of the Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. And the definition of "belief" is pretty broad - does believing in the story of Adam and Eve mean that one believes that all humans descended from only two people, as you say?

Christians are gullible enough to believe anything. The bible is loaded with fairy tales (the previous poster gave a good answer re: man being created from dust, talking snakes, and other such preposterous lies) but is meant more of a guideline on how to behave rather than something to be taken literally. At least that's what most intelligent (non-christian) religions teach.

A fairly large segment of Christians literally believe the story of Adam and Eve, Noah, etc. Our species is doomed.

Well, lets see, is it possible for Mohammed to do what he did? Or Krishna and Vishnua to do their stuff? What about Isis picking up the pieces of Orisis and creating a child from them?

That's the point of "FAITH" its the belief in things Invisible! So, of course we do. God could have easily programmed in the races to be descendants of 2 people!
