Sounds like you need to take him to the vet to have a check up. He is old & it may be time to say goodbye. Sorry

13 is pretty old for a dog, especially if he's a large dog, say german shepherd or lab sized. Hae you called the vet? I hate to tell you this, but odds are he can't get his health back, what you may be able to do is make him more comfortable. He probably has hip displasya, and arthritis, both which are very painful. He needs pain meds and also anti flamitories. Call his vet and tell him what is going on. If you have been regular in his vet visits, and he is aware of the dogs age, he may not see a need to bring him in, but may give you advice over the phone. I have to assume you don't want to take him to the vet, or you would have done so already.

Awww, I totally understand what you mean. My dog Sugar is a small mix breed and she just turned 22 years old!!! I noticed the past two weeks she was panting really hard and coughing every time she tried to drink water and eat. I did not take it to be as serious until she collapsed twice!
Ok, this lil gal owns half my heart! I grew up with her! I was the only child growing up in my family, so I also call her Sissy :)
I DID take her to the vet and boy oh boy I'm so glad I did! She had fluid in her lungs, and she has always had a heart murmur but its at stage 6 now. I could not help to cry at the vet. I felt so bad for not taking her sooner! She is doing much better now her coughing is barely there and she seems all in all much more better!
She is not an animal to me. :) She knows more of the English language than many of us do! lol
Please by all means take your lil buddy to the doctor. Him crying out is a sign of severe pain. You will be glad you did. Good Luck.

Yes...the Vet is the place to go. It might very well be something simple like arthritis or maybe he's been under the influence of something similar to the flu which makes him feel weak as a result (just the way we feel weak and miserable when we get sick).
Don't spare the expense to have him looked at. He's a member of the family and very much worth it. In truth, there's no remedy you can buy at the store for him or prepare at home in place of a visit to the Vet.
Lastly, I think the many suggestions to put him down are very premature and hasty. Give him a chance to be looked at and treated! He deserves it.

Obviously he needs to be checked by a vet to determine the problem, but even if the condition is something that is "treatable". . . Sometimes the most loving thing we can do for our pets is to help them end the pain. He sounds like he is letting you know that he's ready to go, that his quality of life is not going to improve.
It will be hard to say good-bye, I know, but he's had a good long life, and has clearly been well loved.
Most vets will let you stay with your pet as he goes to sleep for the last time. Some (a very few) will even come to your home, so you two can say goodbye in familiar surroundings.
Bless your heart; I'll be thinking about you.

Honestly if he's 13 I'm sorry to say but i think it's just the age that's got him most dogs don't even live to 13 which your very lucky to have. To keep the suffering you might have to put him to sleep sorry to say. There really isn't a way to get his health back sorry. I really hate having to tell you all this but you might have to put him to sleep. I know it's painful but it helps him. At least he won't be suffering anymore. I'm sorry for you and your family

Sorry to say this but I think it might be his time. Talk to the vet and see if you can get any medication to ease his pain. My best friend just had her 15 year old dog put down one week ago today and it was not easy! Think about it....do you want him to suffer in pain??? Good Luck!

He probably either has bad arthritis or a nervous system disorder. You need to go to the vet, have him looked at, and probably put him down. I know it is bad to think about, but the poor thing can't even rest. Don't be selfish, it's easy to do. You have to do what is best for him, he has no quality of life. If it can't be fixed, please do the right thing.

What kind of dog is he? Sounds like it could be arthritis maybe. I'd say taking it to the vet would be your best bet. They can tell you what medicine to use to take the edge off the pain. Good luck!

I had a Rot and when we took her to the vet we found that she had cancer in her uterus...we had to put her to sleep. Your pup probably has arthritis. Take him to the Vet and get him some meds. or look on line for a natural remedy
