I think he might have thought that he was talking to a girl he could just screw and then dump and when you told him you loved him, he knew he couldn't do that, so he just dumped you, but didn't get what he wanted.

It seems you are leaving something out. Do you think he was just trying to test you to find out how much of a freak you are? Or maybe he decided that he really didnt' want to ask you that because he got embarrassed? hard to say
