Has anyone checked that section of this site yet???? It's scary to think that my child could be looking on here. I'm glad I checked it out first. At least myspace is more secure....I can controle how much he reads.

At least on myspace, you can teach your children to filter who they talk to and what they see. On Answers....a kid asked about a birthday party and she got back messages about having sex and other things that kids shouldn't be reading.....I just don't get it....why the heck does myspace have such a bad rap...it seams as though this site needs to be more secure with the answers that are given....I appreciate freedom of speech but there should be a limit....Of course...Like me, parents should be monitoring what their kids do online.

The problem with MySpace is that too many people post their personal information on there, such as address and phone number. They can even post what school they are going to. Talking about dirty stuff and all of that that you are mentioning is not nearly as bad as a pedophile having your kids address and phone number. In the teen section the people posting those things are their peers. MySpace is more open; on Y!A there is not a chance for communication (like email and Instant Messaging) unless you as a parent allow it. Y!A is not a forum for people to talk with each other, MySpace basically is. MySpace has recently set up a Messaging system where you can have real time chat on there. I think by doing that they are setting themselves up for even more problems and bad media coverage. Yahoo! Answers is not nearly as bad as MySpace.

I think the concern of most parents with MySpace is NOT what their child is Reading, it's Who their child is talking to.
A child reading gross stuff that other 13 year olds wrote is not going to cause them much suffering, besides polluting their innocent mind (hehe).
But MySpace, kids put personal information, the school they go to, their pictures, their real names, all sorts of things.
Remember:
MySpace for Tweens = Yellow pages for Pedophiles.
Yahoo! Answers for Tweens = a whole bunch of silly kids talking about sex.

ok well first of all if the kids are mature enough to be on myspace then they should have the sence to know not to talk to people that they dont know, or not to join groups that have alot of older people in them. if u set your profile to private then noone you haven't alowed to can see your profile. they can message you but all you have to do is report them. i'm so sick of people talking bad about myspace because if it wasn't for that site i would never get to talk to several of my friends
