It's water! FOREVER!

2006-07-21 05:39:22 · answer #1 · answered by emma 3 · 0 1

that all depends on the container it's in. If it's in an enclosed container like a water bottle below 40 degrees, then indefinitely -

If it's an open container like a pitcher, I wouldn't drink it after a couple of weeks because the taste of the water will change depending on what else is in the refridgerator.

As long as the world is here I think. But it's confusing at times when they have expiration dates on water when you buy it from the store! I suggest that you either boil the water then refrigerate it or buy a filter because there is so many things inside of tap water. Looks clean enough to take a shower in but clean enough to drink.

Tap water can be kept refrigerated forever, but preferably in a glass rther than a plastic container as glass is non-reactive with most things.
But remember to boil it before drinking as it still contains bacteria, unless the tap water is of clean source.

bacteria is growing in water all the time

its probably best to drink it within 2-3 days

however straight out of the taps best. moving water is cleaner and fresher.

however

if you boil water that cleans it up pretty well in most cases.

failing that distilation will clear even the most dirty water in the world.

so as long as you have a distilation kit at hand forever.

alternatively put it in the freezer, ice lasts forever too!

Cold tap water can be stored for about 2 weeks if kept sealed, away from light and cold or at least cooled, in a clean, amber or foil-covered glass or hard plastic container.

I wouldn't suggest long, unless you filter it before drinking. Also keeping it in a plastic bottle will mke the water go off after a while as the plastic will react with the water.

I would not keep it for more than a few days. get a microscope, try putting your bottle of water in the fridge, after a couple of days check out the microbes - eurgh!
Keep your containers very clean, replace the water every couple of days, otherwise you are fine.

For as long as you have electricity or as long as your fridge's "life" holds.

Actually, not more than a few days, you might get bacteria, mould or something worse growing in it. Refrigerated water is cooler, so it slows the metabolic rate of anything growing in it.

water doesn't go bad. Although if you keep it too long it may start to taste like the jug you put it in.
