You have left out some critical information. How old are you? Is your dad a hunter? If your dad is not a hunter then you need a mentor. They are easy to find, local clubs etc. You need to prove you are responsible and take the hunter safety course if you haven't already. Feel free to email me, maybe I can help.

Well, the question is WHY?

What is your motivation?

Are you wanting to put food on the table, or are you wanting to do this for sport?

It could be that your father does not agree with killing the deer just for kicks.

The ONLY time I see necessary for killing deer is to put food on the table. The other time, to help control the deer population (too many in an area), is an "okay" excuse...but I still don't agree.

And, sport killing...where you're just killing the deer to brag about the points...it's lame, and inexcusable...that may be where your father is coming from.

Don't tell him, hunt deer and get one. When Dad comes up to you and asks what you're cooking on the grill tell him deer burgers and he'll crap his pants.

Turn 18 then he won't have a say in it. Until then, you're living under his roof (I assume) so you're living under his rules. Unless he's just being a prick, he probably has a good reason for not letting you hunt deer.

If he hunts, then you need to act in a responsible manner, act like a man, etc. for a good amount of time so he will see that you're respponsible enough to pick up a gun. If he is not a hunter type, forget it.

"Barry" said it better than I would have..

Even if, your dad isn't a hunter, it would not hurt to mention to him that it would be a great way for you two to spend some time together...There is where you will have the opportunity to prove yourself..

take it upon yourself to learn, read all you can about firearms safety and hunter etiquette.
