Yes. It is a condition. Actually, it's more akin to extortion than anything. I mean, Accept me, Love me... or burn forever.

I'm not sure I would want that kind of love at all.... there's nothing just or merciful about it.

People keeps coming up with this theory of an unconditional love by God. This is interesting to say the least but not correct. In the Old Testament sacrifices was to be brought for sin atonement. That is a condition. People in the Old Testament was to have no other gods before them. When they disobeyed this command God would turn his back on them. That is conditional. Throughout the Old Testament you will find the conditions of God. When Jesus was sacrificed that was the last sacrifice. There are no more sacrifices for you. You are to believe with all of your heart, soul, mind and might that Jesus Christ is Lord and the Son of God. That is a condition. Jesus said numerous times throughout the New Testament to people, go sin no more. Don't return to the sin you did when you was not Christ -like. That is a condition. After you have accepted Jesus then the unconditional love begins not before. This is when you start living in the day of grace.

You need to spend less time on Yahoo answers and more time in the Bible. God created everything, there is nothing that He did not create. I think when God sent His only Son to die for our sins, I think that proves that His love is unconditional. And you don't HAVE to accept Jesus Christ, you have a choice. You have to accept Jesus Christ if you ever want to go to heaven. However, you can choose not to accept Jesus Christ and go to eternal torment in hell.

By the way God and Jesus Christ should be capitalized. I hope you make a choice for Jesus Christ.

God's love for us is unconditional, we do not have to accept Jesus Christ for that love. Acceptence of Jesus Christ is the condition you have to meet to be forgiven for your sins.

God's love IS unconditional... Accepting Jesus and being loved by God have nothing to do with each other... God loves ALL His creation, every single human being included, but not all of them love Him, so they must choose to follow Him. In order to gain entrance into heaven, one must accept Jesus Christ. The fact that people die and go to hell everyday GRIEVES God terribly b/c He DOES love them, but He can't let them into heaven b/c they didn't accept Jesus.

Good question. And why must you not be gay, not muslim, not have sex before marriage etc.? Apparently molesting young boys is ok though.

And what is the point of god loving you if it doesn't mean salvation? So god loves you but God is like "I love you, but I'm sending you to hell. I'm sorry - GO NOW AND BURN!" That seems odd.

And......if I am a murderer, and I ask god to forgive my sins and I accept Jesus, I will go to heaven??? Yet if I'm gay and don't ask for forgiveness I'll go to hell? Is this right? Because that seems f'd up. I don't claim to know everything, but I think it is funny that so many people on here DO claim to know everything. What if you got a minor detail WRONG??? What if someone misinterpreted something way back in B.C. times and now you aren't doing one little thing according to God's criteria for going to heaven? God is going to send you to hell then? You all seem to have the answers for everything. Everyone makes mistakes in their life, you can't avoid that. What if someone back in the times when the Bible was written made a mistake? According to your beliefs you are in big trouble I guess?

Acceptance of Jesus is only necessary for salvation. God loves all, even those who refuse to accept His son, but because they don't take the steps to be cleansed of their sin they seal their own fate. There is nothing conditional about the love, though.

It's like a parent (which Jesus uses numerous times to reflect our relationship with God). I have 3 children. If one of them does something wrong I will take actions to correct him/her. It's not only necessary, it's my duty as a parent. But those who expect a free ride and then blame God are like the unruly bratty child. They expect to have everything they want just because they want it and defy or rebel against any parental discipline.

My oldest child is a 25-year-old adult. He has made numerous poor choices in his life. At one time I told him to leave my house and not to come back until he straightened his act out because he was using drugs and getting into legal trouble. So he was banished from my presence (like God & hell). But that doesn’t mean I didn’t love him. I never stopped loving him and I was hurt by the fact that he chose to destroy his life rather than to try to live a productive life. BUT I NEVER STOPPED LOVING HIM. EVER.

And I am a human, whose concept of love is limited. How much deeper and more intense is the agony of God that we don’t accept His gift? Just don’t mistake discipline for a lack of love. Discipline is proof of love, not a lack.

God's love is unconditional, however, God punished man with death if he ate of the fruit of right and wrong. Jesus offered himself up as a human sacrifice to cover the ransom to get man off of the hook, so that they could have everlasting life. So the condition with Jesus, not God is that you pray through him to get to God, because he died so that we may live. Not God's condition, but Jesus' condition.

I think you are confusing two topics. You are confusing God's love and eternal salvation. There are no conditions for God to love you. The only way to salvation is through acceptance of Jesus Christ. They are two separate things.

If you have a child and you offer him a million dollars to clean his room, does it mean you don't love him if he doesn't clean his room and you don't give him the million dollars?

God loves us whether we choose to follow Jesus or not, but we can only gain salvation if we choose to accept and follow Jesus. His ove not conditioned on anything we do, salvation is conditional on our accpetance of Jesus.

If you don't accept Jesus- heaven is the last place you would want to be, if he let you go to heaven and you didn't love Jesus- that would be worse then sending someone to hell.

God's love in unconditional. Even when you reject him he loves you. Salvation is not unconditional. Jesus died for our sins and in order to accept his sacrifice you have to believe in him. He died for us. Is that no the ultimate unconditional act of love he could show us?
