I live in Los angeles and I know that our sewage systems run down to a plant by Santa Monica Piers. I'm interested to know if it is possible for a Avacado seed which is flushed down the toilet to make it through the sewage system and plant then released into the ocean would it be able to make it's way to catalina island possibly land on shore and become a tree.

It's a simple premise, even if a dolphin picked it up and dropped it off.

Unless LA has an overworked sewage treatment system, it is extremely unlikely that a seed will go into the water treatment. The first step in sewage treatment for huge populations is removal of the solids - like seeds, paper fibre, rubber... which would inhibit the next treatment steps. The sieves yield a water rich sludge which usually is first pressed to go to 20 to 30% dry substance or better, which then goes to either landfill or thermal treatment.

Assuming the seed makes into the treatment plant despite the sieves, the very aggressive bacteria cultures in the life sludge will probably destroy the seed so what comes out won't likely be able to become a plant.

Yes. Chances are that it would like on an island and become a tree as the avocado seed is inedible. So,it comes out with the faecal matter. The seed germination takes place becuse the seed though undigestible, does get acted upon by enzymes and the seed coat gets flaccid, therefore it germinates and can grow anywhere it gets a stimulus.

Too much fertilizer kills plants. For that matter brains. So flush yourself with plenty of fluid and rethink this situation out. Not likely. Have a good one:-)

Probably not. The filters in the waste treatment plant would filter it out. That is if it didn't stop up your plumbing.

No, if it doesn't get disolved by the bacteria, it will end up in a landfill.
