My son was the same way. I started slowly moving him out of the room with us. I started by folding an egg crate in half and covered it with a sheet. Every night, I would move it a little farther from our room. Eventually he was in his room. The fear did come back but not as bad. The next time we bought an inexpensive tent at Wal-mart. It was a 5 x 6 tent for kids. I filled the bottom of it with old blankets and pillows to make it nice and soft. He loved sleeping in the tent. He felt like he was on a camp out every night. I did lay down with him for about 30 minutes each night for about a month and then he would go by himself. He slept in it for about 1 year. Now he will go to his room and sleep with no problem.

There is security issues here. You find out why he is insecure and problem solved. Try a night light. Night mares could be playing a key role in this. Monitor his TV, games etc. this may help. The change between child and teen can be a dramatic time for some children. Maybe he is being bullied in school. There is always a reason when a child displays fear. Watch him during the day to see what types of other behavior is changing. Sometimes, as parents we need to step back from the problem and look at it as an observer not as a parent.

I was like that when I was ages 9-11. I slept throught the night when I was little , but not when I got a little older. Put a movie in. Or play soft music.,The sounds of the ocean helped me. Let him sleep with a light on if he wants, but he must stay in his own bed, to have the tv on. movies are better, cause you know hen something scary is going to come up cause you seen it a lot. Put on a good G movie. I hope he gets over it. Sometimes , just walk to the noise that he hears, if he won't go by himself, you go with him. I hope that this works. I know what it is like to not get any sleep cause of a child. Oh a glass of Cold milk helped me and it even still does. Had to drink some last night.

My brother is 9 and still sleeps in my parents bed sometimes. What my mom does is she has th tv, a light blue lamp, and/or the radio on with the door open while my brother goes to sleep. Sometime she even invites 1 or 2 of his friends to stay the night in his room.but you might wanna sit down an talk to him and tell that he is a young man now and young men sleep in there own rooms that they decorate and put together themselve. Hope my info helped you. Good Luck!

She is 13 year old and is still afraid of sleeping alone. I remembered that I was in kindergarden and I wasn't afraid of sleeping alone, so never mind about being 13. If that is the case with your daughter, you must have baby her too much. You need to let her do her own things otherwise she will continue to be this way. Imagine she is 16 and is still like that.

WOW.........You should have dealt with this 10 years ago..... Talk to his pediatrician and see what they reccomend, otherwise I would suggest giving him a night light and a stereo in his room.. Not a TV because he will more than likely stay up watching it.
Let him sleep with his door open if he so chooses. And if all else fails, I would take him to a Psychiatrist.

Age thirteen is time to stop climbing into your parents bed at night for sure. What is he scared of. If you can deal with this the problem might just go away or alternately perhaps it is just time to tell him no.
