hmm..medical is a very very tough field..it needs loadz n loadz of hardwork n above all dedication..if u dont have a passion or desire for it then never ever think of joining it..I tell u money is nothing..if u join it for earning money then forget it..for earning money u 1st have to pass thru the deadly 5 yrs then add abt 5 more yrs of postgraduation n 5 more yrs b4 u really start practicing properly n earning money..THINK abt the 15 yrs which u have to sacrifice everything..u cant start ur proper life until u finish these hard 15 yrs..n by then ur whole life changes by its own..u become soo used to it u cant do anything..saving patients is a really nice feeling but u have to w8 for 15 yrs or so for tht.. ASK urself can u w8 tht long? r u PATIENT enough? n the time u spend in med school is the golden period of ur life when u want to do tonnes of things but being in medicine u cant do them cos u have to study..I know nothings tough n thts wat I thought when I joined med school but things r very different beyond the gates of med school..alas once u start practicing ur personal life ends at tht day..so think abt all these things..there have been many days when I jus want to bid adiues to med school n do something else but then i think abt the time i have already spent here n tell myself hey its only a few yrs more lets finish it..lastly to any new doc wanabes..plzz consider these things: dont take medicine if u dont have a passion n desire for it. dont come for money. dont come to impress someone. above all think tht its a very very competitiive field n u have to be the best to get the best..otherwise there r only too many toms, dicks n harrys in medicine but only few einsteins!!

My advice... seriously... this is as someone who has been practicing for a number of years and has seen the compensation for physicians decrease while the cost of living steadily increases... If you don't love it, then don't do it... don't go into this field for the money.

By far, the bulk of patients that I see are Medicare dependant. Medicare virtually dictates to the physician what he can charge and then they limit your payments based on what they feel the procedure is worth.... Over the years, for the bulk of procedures, physician reimbursement from Medicare has drifted steadily downward. I have to pay more for my office space, more for my staff, and more for my supplies... The hospitals are in the same boat... and the funny thing is, that the patients themselves are paying more for their healthcare coverage. So where is this money going? To the insurers and their shareholders. Maybe I should have majored in finance and accounting??!

I guess you could cater towards the high end patients with private insurance, but I feel a physician is a physcician because one wants to make a difference in the world. Take from this what you will.

When choosing to have a career in the medical field you have to be dedicated and love what you do. It takes a lot of patience, time and effort. After so many years working hard to be successful at something you will always come to a point when you ask yourself "is this really what I want to do?" But that is just a bump in the road. Some people decide on a career based on salary or recognition, you have to make sure its what you really want to do. And when you decide that I'm sure you'll be successful at it.

I can say nothing is tough, its just the bit more dedication and interest which takes you to surpass ocean. Their are various disciplines within the school based on the interest you can choose as you go forward. Don't be under the impression that all who go to medical schools are genius and rest of them chosen the other paths don't have hard time. In Pre-college that's why introductory subjects such as Biology, Zoology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry was intoduced to help choose someones interest in their degrees.

the only thing that pushes me ahead is my great desire to finish my beloved college and to work what i truly love, nothing else. i had some very bad moments when i felt self-destructive, but the day after its all gone, i just oversleep it and go ahead. you cant finish it if you really, really dont love it...
