I've done a lot of outdoor cooking and have used different grills for about 50 years now. Yes, I have my preference. It's a tightly closed grill with a tempered glass front so that you can easily see how the cooking is going. I like metal walls because of it's heat retension properties. I good grill needs to have racks at different levels so that the foods arent overcooked or undercooked. (a rack too low is too close to the heat source) and tends to cook the outside of the food too quickly, leaving it almost raw inside. A rack that's too high and too far away from the heat source seems to take forever to finish. The heat source I prefer is gas, propane, whatever, and I like using Lava Rocks between the flame and the lower rack, which helps to hold in the heat and in turn saves on fuel costs. I've prepared large quanities of food for large crowds, and really like having a large cooker to do it with. I build my own of course, using 55 gals drums, sliced in half so that i'll have a large cooking area and a large top to close and seal the cooker while in use. Along with a little imagination and a few hinges, you can have one finished in a short period of time. I've also used (2) 55 gal drums at the same time, side by side with a 4 inch pipe joining them together. I'd do the cooking in one of them, and use the other strickly for smoking and slow cooking, simply because it doesnt have it's own heat source, the heat from the other grill is piped to the 2nd grill for slow cooking. By using charcoal on the one side, along with Lava Rocks to retain the heat, I've found that I save a lot on fuel costs. Be sure not to forget to throw some good wood on top of the coals after soaking them in water so that they will slowburn, Hickory being the most favorite of all. Thanks for listening. Larry.

He probably won't wear the apron. The grill set should have gunstock handles that you are talking about and should be extra long for dealing with the flames that will result from having the heat too high. Guys like to have a good blaze going so they will need to have beer to overcome the heat. A good beer cooler us an absolute must.

If you think he'll like it, then sure. It seems a bit over priced to me.
